Which party has a "culture of corruption?"
Which party has a "culture of corruption?"
Of course there are bad apples in any organization. But the Democratic Party for years has accused the Republican Party of fostering a "culture of corruption." It has been a recurring campaign theme since the summer of 2005*. But upon closer examination, it appears that the political left is where there is a problem with corruption.

Even more examples are available if you look for the word "corruption" on this page.

The word "suspicious" doesn't even begin to describe the stuff on this page.

NEW: This page has been shrunk by about 65 k-bytes now that I have moved all the "small potatoes" to a separate page. The new page is about local-level Democrats who have been accused of small-scale (although not harmless) crimes and improprieties. The material below is mostly about Senators, Representatives and Governors who have shown that the Democrat party is the one with the "culture of corruption."

Please remember that the American system of justice includes a presumption of innocence: Anyone who is accused or suspected of a crime is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Will Hillary Break The Criminal Conduct Glass Ceiling? Voters in Massachusetts deserve a special category of ignominy having sent Barney Frank to Congress for twelve terms after his implication in a male prostitution ring; for re-electing Gerry Studds six times after his censure by Congress for having gay sex with an underage congressional page; and of course for returning Ted Kennedy to the US Senate five times, after he narrowly escaped a grand jury indictment over Mary Jo Kopechne's asphyxiation death in his abandoned Oldsmobile off Chappaquiddick Island. Massachusetts is the role model, notwithstanding stiff competition from Illinois, where Democratic Party ideology and loyalty excuses criminal conduct.
The Stench of Corruption Stalks Harry Reid. Honestly, the level of corruption in the Democratic Party is just stupefying. They don't even try to hide it anymore. From Bill Clinton, whose mentor in Arkansas was the Prohibition gangster Owney Madden; to Nancy Pelosi (Baltimore mafia princess) to the Chicago Mob stooge Barack Obama to Reid — the living embodiment of Sen. Pat Geary himself — the party is run by criminals for criminals. Is there not a single lawyer expert in the RICO statutes on the GOP side? Or is the Stupid Party too dumb to notice what's happening?
Lying Democrats: Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder have no shame. Something happens to men and women when they gain a proximity to power. Most in public service, one can only assume, begin with noble purpose: to serve, to change and improve the world — whether that be a small town or, literally, the world. Soon enough, many — not all, but many — want only to stay in that position of power, and will do what it takes, whatever it takes, to stay there. Where once they talked only of their dreams and ambitions, not for themselves, but for those they served, soon enough they spend their days tearing down — their campaign foes, opposing political parties and, in the end, anyone who doesn't think like them.
Liberalism and Optional Law. The sad reality is that rule of law — that the laws apply equally to all Americans — no longer exists in America. Obama's imperial presidency, sanctuary cities, and the liberal establishments refusal to enforce laws they don't like means that the law does not apply equally, even in principle, to all Americans. Some cite the Constitutional remedies such as impeachment but the reality is that the liberal politicians have no honor and will support their own no matter what, as they did when Bill Clinton committed perjury to protect himself from sexual-harassment charges.
How Political Machines End. Ross Douthat, writing in the New York Times ruefully writes "I simply do not believe that the Obama Justice Department is going to indict the former secretary of state and Democratic front-runner for mishandling classified information, even if the offenses involved would have sunk a lesser figure's career or landed her in jail." The observation is almost tantamount to arguing that the rule of law no longer exists; that the political class can literally do whatever it wants.
Albany's protection racket could be straight out of the Mafia. New Yorkers who are cynical about the cesspool otherwise known as Albany are getting vindication these days. The separate but simultaneous corruption trials of the former leaders of the Legislature are revealing a culture even more rotten than we knew. Democrat Sheldon Silver, the former speaker of the Assembly, and Republican Dean Skelos, the former Senate majority leader, stand accused of being greedy serial manipulators who used their power to enrich themselves and their families.
New Mexico secretary of state resigns, enters guilty plea. New Mexico Secretary of State Dianna Duran pleaded guilty to embezzlement and other charges Friday after abruptly resigning amid a fraud investigation that alleges she siphoned thousands of dollars from her election account and withdrew the money at casinos around the state.
The So-What Democrats Shrug Off A Serious Charge. Hillary Clinton has not been charged with a crime. But the appearance of wrongdoing is strong enough to warrant an investigation. Yet Democrats just brush it all off, saying there's nothing here to see. [...] Even if Democrats believe Clinton did nothing wrong with her email, shouldn't they have some concerns about how she handled the terrorist attacks in Benghazi? They should. But they don't.
Why isn't this a bribe? This story has all the elements of Democrat establishment corruption: an entrepreneur seeking affirmative action preferences, a congressman who is also a preacher, and a nonprofit organization receiving the money.
America's Six Worst Attorneys General. State attorneys general (AGs) are their state's chief lawyer, tasked with representing state agencies in court, defending state laws, and giving legal advice to state officials. But in recent years, many AGs have taken on a role as self-serving politicians who neglect these duties and instead seek to expand their own power — from using their office to enrich themselves or their trial lawyer friends to filing lawsuits attacking political opponents or law-abiding businesses. These and other AG abuses are chronicled in the Competitive Enterprise Institute's latest report, The Nation's Worst State Attorneys General 2015, which names six of the worst offenders.
Has the DOJ Silenced Bob Menendez on the Iran Deal? On Monday night [8/24/2015], the Department of Justice brought the hammer down on Senator Bob Menendez. Reportedly in response to the senator's frequent dismissals of the indictment against him as being based on flimsy evidence and FBI's systematic efforts to mislead a New Jersey grand jury, the DOJ submitted a blistering filing that could — and quite possibly should — imperil the Garden State senator's career.
DOJ: Menendez corruption 'clear and unmistakable'. The Justice Department is slamming Sen. Bob Menendez's push to get corruption charges against him dropped, saying that the "quid pro quo outlined in the indictment is clear and unmistakable." "The charges in this case are the result of a careful and professional investigation," federal prosecutors said in court documents submitted Monday [8/24/2015].
Something's Happening Here. Clinton is now immersed in what could very well be the scandal of the century. There's no way to wriggle free of the mishandling of classified data. You can finesse financial laws and ethics rules. You can't finesse this stuff. News reports suggest there may be dozens of people who have violated the law and conspired to hide their involvement. This is Watergate level stuff given her position.
Group accuses McCaskill of violating federal campaign finance laws. A conservative group filed a complaint against Sen. Claire McCaskill on Thursday [8/13/2015], accusing her of violating federal campaign finance laws to beat Todd Akin in Missouri's 2012 Senate race. The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, a conservative government watchdog group, submitted a complaint to the Federal Election Commission saying that McCaskill attempted to illegally influence who would be her opponent in the Senate race by sharing valuable polling data with the Akin campaign.
Group backing Clinton gets $1M from untraceable donors. Hillary Rodham Clinton told a cheering crowd at her largest rally so far that "the endless flow of secret, unaccountable money" must be stopped. Two weeks later, the main super PAC backing her bid for the Democratic presidential nomination accepted a $1 million contribution that cannot be traced.
Corruption probes hitting Dems across the country. A wave of corruption arrests and investigations is roiling Democratic politicians, posing a potential image problem in an election year. The latest were a pair of arrests earlier this week, snagging Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon, who later resigned, and California state Sen. Leland Yee. The latter involved a tangled web of allegations including claims that the gun control-pushing lawmaker tried to connect an undercover agent with an international arms dealer. So far, these cases are confined to the state and local levels, so it remains to be seen whether Democrats running in the congressional midterms will be tarnished.
Pennsylvania's top prosecutor arraigned on criminal charges. Pennsylvania's top prosecutor barely spoke at her arraignment Saturday on charges including a felony count of perjury, but her attorney stressed afterward that she has no plans to resign, despite growing pressure even among her fellow Democrats.
Kathleen Kane charged with perjury, obstruction of justice, abuse of office. Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane is being charged with perjury, obstructing administration of law and other charges that allege she orchestrated a campaign to leak secret information, then lied to a grand jury about it. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman said Kane is accused of a scheme in which "we allege she orchestrated to leak confidential investigative information and secret grand jury" information, then lied to a grand jury about that. Kane, a Democrat who swept into office in 2012 in a decisive victory, has been mired in skirmishes with former staffers and faced a grand jury investigation into leaks of sealed information from her office.
Feds Indict Pennsylvania US Rep. Fattah in Racketeering Case. A longtime Philadelphia congressman who was indicted Wednesday [7/29/2015] paid off a campaign loan with charitable donations and federal grants, funneled campaign money to pay down his son's student loan debt and disguised a lobbyist's bribe as payment for a car he never sold, federal prosecutors said. Democratic U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah and four associates were charged with racketeering conspiracy. They also were charged with bribery, conspiracy to commit wire, honest services, bank and mail fraud, and money laundering, among other things.
Democratic Rep. Chaka Fattah Indicted in Racketeering Conspiracy. The Justice Department indicted Democratic Rep. Chaka Fattah of Pennsylvania and four of his associates for their involvement in a racketeering conspiracy "to further their political and financial interests," U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger said Wednesday [7/29/2015] at a press conference for the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The charges within the 29-count indictment include accepting illegal contributions, bribery, creating sham contracts, and misappropriating campaign funds to pay off Fattah's son's college loans.
Drip, Drip, Drip. With the drip, drip, drip of the many conflicts of interest which enrich the Clinton family and bedevil Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, one refrain remains constant among the liberal punditry: "These stories are not hurting Hillary's support among Democrats." Even if the claim were true — which appears increasingly dubious — what does persistently strong support for Mrs. Clinton in the face of endless stories of the Clinton Foundation accepting money from foreign countries that had important business before Hillary's State Department say about Democratic voters?
Democrats criticize government audit of Healthcare.gov. Ordinarily you would think that members of Congress would be happy when the federal auditor, the General Accounting Office, reveals that a program is vulnerable to fraud of Biblical proportions. [...] If the program we're talking about is ObamaCare, you would be wrong. It is the signature program of The LightWorker, their Precious, and therefore, it is beyond criticism.
Former mayor of Pa. capital charged with 499 criminal counts. The former longtime mayor of Harrisburg, Pa., was arrested Tuesday [7/14/2015] and charged with nearly 500 criminal counts, in part stemming from allegations he illegally used hundreds of thousands of dollars from city agencies to purchase historical items, the Harrisburg Patriot-News reported. Stephen R. Reed, 65, whose term as Democratic mayor of Pennsylvania's capital city spanned nearly three decades, was arraigned on 499 counts stemming from 17 criminal charges before Magisterial District Judge William Wenner.
Former Illinois congressman Reynolds indicted on tax charges. Former U.S. Representative Mel Reynolds, already convicted of having sex with an underage campaign worker, was indicted again for failing to file income tax returns for 2009 through 2012, federal prosecutors said on Friday [6/26/2015].
The Show Me the Money State. Missouri's second highest elected official blasted Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon for accepting lucrative union campaign donations after vetoing right to work legislation. Nixon received $50,000 from the United Auto Workers union just days after vetoing legislation that would have ended the practice of coercive unionism in the state. Republican Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder demanded a refund, criticizing the seeming quid pro quo.
Massachusetts House Launches Investigation Into Deval Patrick's Hidden Accounts. Massachusetts House investigators are looking into whether former Gov. Deval Patrick diverted state money to secret funds for travel, advertising and other off-the-books expenses. The Boston Herald first broke the story of the money transfers earlier this week.
Heilemann: If A GOPer Had Written Bernie Sanders' Rape Tale, It Would Be A 'Huge Scandal'. Heilemann also told "With All Due Respect" co-host Mark Halperin that journalists need to hold Sanders to the "same standard" as a Republican and ask him "tough questions" about the essay. "I know we both agree about this, which is that if a Republican, any Republican candidate wrote an essay like this, whether they were 16 years old and high on dope or whether it was two weeks ago, it would be a huge scandal," Heilemann said. "So I think we need to hold Bernie Sanders to the same standard, and people need to ask him tough questions about it."
Judge Roy Moore: Impeach Ginsburg for Marrying Two Men Ahead of SCOTUS Ruling on Gay Marriage. On May 17, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg officiated the marriage of two men and used the occasion to cite her constitutional right to do so. In June, the high court — including Ginsburg's vote — will announce its decision on whether homosexual marriage is guaranteed by the Constitution. That's grounds for impeachment, Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore told CNSNews.com in an exclusive interview.
Green Car Co. Tied to Visas Obtained Under False Pretenses - and Democrat Operatives. GreenTech Automotive. Backed by the political elite (Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's brother Anthony Rodham, former Louisiana Governor Katherine Blanco, and former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour) funded by foreign nationals (namely exiled Chinese businessman Charles Wang), and nearly as profitable as Solyndra. Yes, that Solyndra. But it gets worse.
Exclusive: Bernie Sanders' Wife May Have Defrauded State Agency, Bank. Documents obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation indicate that the wife of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders may have been able to use her clout to get away with loan fraud, nearly bankrupting the small college she was president of and collecting a sizable severance package in the process. These revelations come amid growing speculation that Sen. Sanders, a self-described socialist who has blasted the U.S. government as an oligarchy run by billionaires and railed against the golden parachutes received by top corporate executives, will contend for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Role of Hillary Clinton's brother in Haiti gold mine raises eyebrows. Drive down the rutted dirt road a couple of miles to the guardhouse, then hike 15 minutes up to the overgrown hilltop, and there it is: a piece of 3½-inch-wide PVC pipe sticking out of the ground. This is what, at least for the time being, a gold mine looks like. It also has become a potentially problematic issue for Hillary Rodham Clinton as she considers a second presidential run, after it was revealed this month that in 2013, one of her brothers was added to the advisory board of the company that owns the mine.
Rand Paul: Foreign donations to Clinton Foundation [are] 'thinly veiled bribes'. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told POLITICO on Friday that foreign contributions to the Clinton Foundation are "thinly veiled bribes," and said Hillary Clinton should return any donations from Saudi Arabia or other countries that abuse the rights of women. "The normal Clinton response is to cover up, deny, refuse to acknowledge," Paul said in a telephone interview as he was being driven through New Hampshire. "But the question is whether the country will rise up and respond to the unseemly nature of accepting foreign donations. "
Dianne Feinstein's Husband Awarded Massive Fortune in Rail Boondoggle. What a remarkable coincidence. A guy who was just handed $1 billion of other people's money in the latest rail boondoggle happens to be married to someone we know: [...] The purpose of government spending in a socialistic corruptocracy like ours is to "spread the wealth around" — i.e., confiscate it from those who create it for redistribution to our rulers and those in their favor. For this reason, it is totally unnecessary for rail and green energy projects to make any economic sense whatsoever. All by itself this explains why capitalism works and socialism does not work.
Dianne Feinstein's husband wins near-billion dollar California 'high speed rail' contract. To the surprise of absolutely no one familiar with the ways of Corruptifornia, the one-party state completely in the hands of the Democrats, a consortium whose lead firm is controlled by Richard Blum, husband of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, was awarded a nearly billion-dollar contract for the construction of the first phase of the so-called high-speed rail line to link San Francisco and Los Angeles. Those paying attention to the project call it the "half-fast" rail line because it will share trackage with conventional commuter rail trains in the sprawling Los Angeles and San Francisco areas, lowering its average speed to levels achieved by American railways a century ago.
Elijah Cummings is Knee Deep in IRS Scandal. Cleta Mitchell, who is representing True the Vote, has filed an ethics probe against Elijah Cummings on February 6th (2014) with the Office of Congressional Ethics. Last fall, True the Vote started receiving 8 and 9 page letters from Cummings, claiming he was conducting an investigation of their organization as part of the House Oversight Committee. One problem. The House Oversight Committee is only allowed to investigate government agencies. Going after a private citizen is illegal. Mitchell wants to find out if Cummings is responsible in part or completely for the harassment of Catherine Engelbrecht, founder of True the Vote. After Cummings launched his "investigation", Engelbrecht had her business audited twice, her personal taxes once, two visits from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, a surprise visit from OSHA, seven visits from the FBI.
Jane Harman: $500K Unreported Donation to Clintons 'Got Lost In System'. Former Congresswoman Jane Harman (D-CA) takes a "guess" on Fox News Sunday, that the unreported $500,000.00 Algerian donation to the Clinton Foundation "got lost in the system," and was never submitted to the State Department for approval. Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State at the time, and the buck would have, or should have, stopped at her desk for final approval, had it been questionable, which it surely was. Political candidates are not allowed to take money from foreign governments. Algeria is "foreign," is 99 percent Sunni Muslim with 99 percent Berber/Arab ancestry. She was not a political candidate, at the time, you are saying? Hillary Clinton has been a political candidate since she followed Bill into the White House in January 1993.
Virginia Dem Party Chair Arrested for Trying to Hire Hit Man to Kill Girls He Molested. The former Chairman of the Falls Church, Virginia Democrat Party who has been charged with sexually molesting two young girls is now also accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill the young girls before they could tell police their story. Loudoun County prosecutors say that Democrat Michael Gardner, who is about to stand trial for the molestation charges, tried to find a hit man while in prison.
NY prosecutor basically calls Governor Cuomo a liar. As we recently discussed, there's a bit of a tug of war going on inside New York's state government, as Governor Andrew Cuomo dodges around to stay out of the corruption investigation net which has already swept up former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. While there is no word as to whether or not Silver will roll for the prosecutors and give up the governor, the media has gotten essentially nothing from the big guy.
John Kitzhaber controversy: Cylvia Hayes fighting order to release her emails. Former Oregon first lady Cylvia Hayes declared Wednesday that she will go to court to block a state order requiring her to turn over emails related to her public service. Portland attorney Whitney Boise, representing Hayes, notified The Oregonian/OregonLive and the state Justice Department of her intent to sue in Marion County Circuit Court.
