Is this guy a Hall of Famer?
Without revealing the name just yet, I am going to give you some numbers of a player not in the Hall, and you guys tell me if he deserves to be there.
    330 plus homers
    Almost 1500 RBI
    .290 lifetime average
    2 batting titles
    1 MVP Award
    .345 in a World Series
    3 Silver Slugger Awards
    3 Gold Gloves
Possessed one of the top two throwing arms in the game while he was playing
    88 plus RBI seasons
    20 plus homers 9 times
    150 plus career stolen bases

Those are similar numbers to Jim Rice who isn't in the Hall. Of course that leads to the question of, should Rice be there? A lot of people think he should.

I'm not clear on this line: 88 plus RBI seasons

In any case, based on that info I think my vote would be no. The numbers are very good but I'm not blown away.

Different HOF's set different standards and I kind of like how baseball is very tough (unlike hockey).

I would call that a great career and leave it at that.

Somewhere along the line, the topic changed from are these numbers good enough for the HOF? to guess the player.

              Nice call scotty.

This is why I hate looking just at numbers. Guys like Parker, Rice, Dawson and I'll throw one more name at you from a while back, Vada Pinson, are borderline players. For my money, they were all right there as far as being in the top 10% of their contemporaries that is my loose cutoff/criteria.

I would rank Parker behind Rice, behind Pinson, behind Dawson as far as that quartet that is not in the HOF.

That career summary describes Larry Walker, but he isn't a HOFer.

Walker and Parker are two perfect comparisons from slightly different eras.

Another name to throw out there that should generate controversy is Albert Belle. That guy posted 10-yrs worth of really great numbers - better than Rice, Dawson, Pinson, Parker and Walker. He came off as an ass, putting it mildly. But he was a monster with a bat for a decade.

Walker was a legitimate 5 tool player. Belle was not. But he did put up some numbers.
