    Unbearable TV announcers
Hi all, I'm new here, this is my first post.
I wonder how many agree with me that the following announcers are unbearable:
    Rick Sutcliffe
Hubie - I forget his last name , he's the basketball guru)
    Joe Theisman

I have to make constant use of the mute button in order to preserve my sanity when these guys are on.And there are plenty of others, you can add your nominations.

    Welcome to the forum, Cy.

Is Tony Kubek still announcing? He used to do Blue Jays games in the 80's and I still suffer the post-traumatic stress of his constant yapping and over-analyzing.

Other than that, Dan Dierdorf comes right to mind for me.

        Howdy, Cy

I agree with you about Sutcliffe. Not quite on the same level of awful in my book as Tim McCarver and Brent Musburger. Also can't stand to listen to Milo Hamilton any longer, and that's a real bad deal for me because I love to listen to baseball games on the radio. But he just never can keep up with the action on the field because he's so dadgum busy plugging every frickin' sponsor the Astros have.

Any liberal leaning broadcaster that gets a visit from Bill Clinton in the broadcasting booth.I saw Clinton visit pumpkin head Berman and Dick Vital on two separate occassions and I thought both blew their wad and were going to give Clinton a BJ.They made total asses of themselves and an hour later Vital was chewing out some kids for smoking that played inner city basketball.

Go figure. I thought there would be a chorus of agreement with me about Sutcliffe, Hubie Brown and Joe Theisman.Instead they are mostly ignored and people vent their dislike of the very few guys that I actually like.Mccarver, Buck, Deirdorf. Its no wonder that the networks hire so many stiffs as "analysts". They have no idea who the audience likes or hates.
Dont you guys realize that we're going to be subjected to Hubie Brown's motor-mouth pontificating for the entire NBA finals? Why do we have to be subjected to such punishment?

The biggest problem for my ears, and I know I've mentioned this here before, is the idea of having two or three voices in the booth competing with the game. There are probably a lot of good play-by-play guys out there today who will never get the opportunity to ply that craft these days. In many ways, there really isn't a play-by-play guy any longer.

Last season for Astros games, Alan Ashby worked one inning by himself, think it was the 5th or 6th, while the Hall of Famer Milo took a break. Ashby was never going to make anyone forget Red Barber or Vin Scully or Ernie Harwell. But it was a great way to listen to a game. Just Ash describing the action on the field and working in a few scores. It was great!

I listened to a lot of Rockets games over the years, and anyone who has heard Gene Peterson do a game knows even if someone else is in the booth, they don't get a lot of chances to speak. Same thing with Johnny Most, at least the few times I got to listen into his broadcasts. Most and Peterson are homers, pure and simple. But they also could or can describe the action to you over the radio very well.

There really should be no such thing as a bad announcer on TV broadcasts. Hear someone you don't like, hit mute and just watch. Take turns with friends in the room doing your own play-by-play. If someone gets hurt or some fight breaks out, turn it up to hear anything important, then hit mute and go back to regular TV viewing.

Not one person mentioned the long winded gas bag Chris Berman. Be glad you guys do not have ESPN otherwise this clown would be #1 on your list.

Now some of you have mentioned guys that definitly have annoying traits. However there is one guy who is the king of kings when it comes to the worst announcer award. His name is Josh Lewin and he does Texas Ranger games with Tom Grieve. Its not that I have anything agaist the ranger to make me hate him. Its the fact that the dude just sucks. His voice....his unfunny cracks....and when you mix him with the incredibly monotone Grieve then you have a recipe for the root canal of baseball announcing.
