i see people are sending get well cards to Barbaro's stall, and i got to thinking. why in the world are these people sending get well cards to a horse ... i can see maybe a get well card to a player something, but too a horse.

i've sent a few cards out to a few players that i know. has anyone here sent anything at all to an athlete before, if so who and what ?

      I never have.

But this thread reminds me of my mom - who used to be a member of the Blue Jays Fan Club and is big on crafts - making a sweater for Jessie Barfield's son Joshua soon after he was born.

I remember the sweater. It was a tiny little thing with Joshua crocheted into it.

I was also thinking of that tiny sweater earlier this spring when I heard that Josh Barfield was going to make the major leagues this year.

      Time flies.

Nope. When he was a player, I used to comp Rudy Tomjanovich a beer (Pabst Dark) while he waited for his pizza-to-go at a joint where I worked one summer earning pennies for college.

Also gave Darryl Kile a stuffed animal for his youngest daughter one year around Christmas. He and his family were shopping at a Toys-R-Us the same time I was in there buying a basket of stuffed animals for a local toy drive. This was Dec '97 right after he had signed a free agent deal with the Rockies. They were leaving the store at the same time I was, and DK was holding the little tike that must've been about 2-yrs-old at the time. I'm carrying three huge bags and he held the door open for me, so I reached in one of the bags once I was outside and handed a toy to him, wishing him good luck with his new team. Class guy, and a sad day less than five years later when he passed away.

Never sent anyone anything. have had a number of conversation with some. Some went well, other,... wll we just have a difference in opinion about what they contribute to my team.

Met and talked to Michael Jordan, Jim Calhoun, Rick Pitino, Bobby Knight, Ron Artest, Dale Davis, a few IU basketball players, and Dick vitale if he counts.

Those aere the only ones that come to mind right now.

Oh, and i've played Jim jackson and Terry Dehere in basketball and was on Michael Finley's camp team in a basketball camp years ago. Needless to say, we won the tournamnet. But, that was waaay before you would have even knew he would be an NBA player. This was like freshman year of high schhol for mboth of us.

For those who don't know Terry Dehere. He was a 4 year starter at Seton hall who was really good at that time, was later a lottery pick of the Clippers and now plays in Europe. But he looked damn good then. Better than Jimmy jackson who was also a lottery pick.

I reckon that BBD is wanting to send a "Congratulations" card to Barry Bonds.

Bonds wouldn't sign his McGwire poster.
