Coaching was his life and once that was taken away it was just a matter of time.

I'm sorry if this sounds callous, but I don't have it in me to feel all that sympathetic to a guy who enabled a pedophile.
And he did it for more than a decade.
I'll let Bones comment on Paterno being up.

Enabled little boys to get their asses raped by one of his coaches for 10 years and knew it all the while. Was okay with it as long as he kept his coaching job and the wins kept coming.
Joe Pa.
Fixed it for ya.
Man alive, you guys are bunch of pc douches.
Are you so trained to say "poor guy" after somebody dies.... that you forget the fact that Joe Pa was an enabler for little boys' assholes to get pillaged?
Same moronic crowd that shed tears after Michael Jackson died.
Any of you morons think for yourself? Unreal. If your son got backdoor bullied by Joe Pa's coach, would be singing your bs 'rest in peace' song? Puh-lease.
Idiots.

Same collection of idiots will be going "poor OJ" once OJ bites the dust.

So stupid. McQueary never saw anyone being raped, he lied about that. Paterno went through the proper channels, he did what he should have. Its sad that most people blame him more than the pedophile and the people who didn't investigate properly.
RIP Joe. He knew he would die after he stopped coaching, just like Bear Bryant. Pretty crazy to see it happen so quickly.

What else should he have done, smart guy? He went to the head of the fukking police department! Is it not their job to find the truth in situations like this? Blame them for failing at their job, not Joe Pa for not firing a guy because of an accusation.

Well said Baskets.
The guy allowed a pedophile complete access to his football program, and today is he sainted.
It's f'd up.

Baskets arguing with passion but no logic. He's projecting his morals on everyone else and then creating strawmen to avoid the topic. Classic sociopath

RIP Joe Pa
Your legacy will show u lived for football and died once it was taken. You could have been a great man but you sold your soul to football and took a blind eye to what was really important .

Give me baskets' morals any day of the week over people feeling sad for JoePa's passing. Pathetic.
The bloke had cancer and wanted to drop dead on the job so he could be a legend forever. Only thinking of himself at all times. Obviously never gave a shit about his football team.

My issue with Paterno has nothing to with how he reported the incident.
What I don't understand, and where I think Paterno needs to show responsibility for his actions is how he handled Sandusky. Paterno was a powerful man on campus, he could have made life miserable for Sandusky. He could have had his ass launched from that football facility and no one would have questioned Joe. But Paterno didn't do that, he allowed the monster to parade kid after kid into the locker rooms, the showers, the press box, the practice facility----that is where Paterno failed.
