    Sportsbooks timing out too fast
As forum regulars may have noticed, this is an ongoing issue with me. I don't like sportsbooks where you have to keep logging in over and over.

    I'M TALKING TO YOU 777ROCK!!!

But there are many others too.

On the other hand I give a big to books which are more relaxed in this regard.

    Intertops
    Mansion
    The Greek
    Las Palmas
    Legendz
    Bet4Aces

Is there an actual financial component to this for the books? Do they save money by not letting people stay logged in for a long time? I have a very shallow understanding of computer matters but do they pay for their number of ports or some damn thing like that?

I've heard how books are trying to protect us in case someone wanders up to a computer where we forgot to log off and starts monkeying around. I find that a bit of a stretch. Just let me set my own settings then. I work at home and I live alone and I'm willing to take the chance with longer time-out settings.

What do you think? Is this topic totally trivial to you or should I organize an uprising against books that time-out too fast?

WHO'S WITH ME?? WHO'S WITH ME??

Totally agree. My guess it is has to do with bandwidth.

Time out period for a few that come to mind: Wagerweb is terrible, Skybook bad, Canbet poor, Pinnacle so-so, Betwwts is good. Can you imagine live betting on a game and having to log in again?

Exchanges are great: Tradesports and Mansion. For obvious reasons. Still, they show that it can be done and shouldn't be much of a problem.

            I despise fast timeouts.

Based on my experience, here are some of the best and worst:

Excellent. Do not time out, or time out only after a very long time:

            Intertops
            Mansion
            Matchbook
            Olympic
Pinnacle (if you use the auto refresh option, though even that will malfunction and boot you for no apparent reason occasionally)
            Sportingbet group
            WSEX

Mediocre. Time out after a half hour or an hour or so:

            Legendz
            SIA
            Trojan
            WWTS

            Absolutely disgraceful:

5 Dimes (used to be in the mediocre category until their recent “upgrade”)
            777Rock
            ABC Islands
            Actionbets
            Bet365
            BetBBB
            Bet Jamaica
            Bodog
            Bowmans
            Canbet
            CRIS
Skybook (this is a soft boot; just need to hit refresh to be back in)
VIP group (this is a soft boot; just need to hit refresh to be back in)
            Wagerweb

I’ve never worked for a book, but I surmise the reasons for the timeouts are as follows:

            1. Inconvenience sharp players. If Joe Square wants to bet the Yankees, and he only plays at one or two books, what does it matter to him that there’s a ten minute timeout? He logs in, navigates to the lines, puts a check mark in the Yankees box, and bets his $100. Done. Doesn’t take ten minutes. Doesn’t even take one minute. But Louie Lineshopper trying to keep twenty-five books and Don Best open simultaneously so he can shop lines all day and pounce in seconds when he sees an opportunity is going to be hugely inconvenienced by fast timeouts. Guess which player books want and which one they’ll service only grudgingly if at all?

            2. Costs more money to keep masses of people logged on until they get around to logging themselves off.

Very, very, very, very, very, very, very distant 3. Security reasons. Less likely someone else will bet in a customer’s account if the site logs users off after a minimal period of inactivity.
