After every game where I lose on a half-court buzzer beater, a shit turnover, a backdoor cover, a blind ass zebra I say I'm done. I have to quit, how can you cap this shit? It is bullsh*t. I know that even if I do get on a streak, I will probally give it all back. I have made two cashouts in 6 years of sports betting I'd say.. but I have built up my balance from 20 to over a 1000 atleast 20 times. I don't have the means to be gambling right now really, yet I say one more reload. I give it a shot have a couple of good nights, then BANG.. it's back to 0. I say I'm done, then the next day comes around.. it's 4:00 pacific 7 eastern and I feel like damn I'm going to miss out on a winner. I went through 4,000 in a couple of months with a local when I was 19 my first experience betting, I should have known to quit then. I remember I had a 3 team parlay going to get me back out of the hole, my last play was a Sunday night game Oakland at Denver in a snow game, I had the Broncos this was prolly 6 years ago. Of course Oakland was a bad team and they kicked the shit out of Denver in the snow. rofl Been gambling every day for the past 2 years I'd say give or take a couple of days off.

I'm not going to some ga meeting , I don't have much spiritual going on for me and one of the few things left I enjoy is betting on sports. That is until halfway into the game. lol. I just turned 26 3 days ago, I think it is finally time to come to the realization that this isn't the life I want to live any more. I gotta make a change. One day at a time.. I gotta have some faith in myself and realize that the actions today make your future. Hope I can do this,

Hindsight Bias. The sporting world is not out to get you nor does it revolve around your wagers. Your ego is killing you. Most people are expected to lose at this. The longer one thinks they are an exception and that rules of probablity and statistics dont apply to them then the longer you will suffer.

Entertainment morphing into addiction is so painful...once the line is crossed theres no going back. So 1. become humble and realize you are going to lose. Step Away. or 2. Suffer quietly.

middling and scalping is profitable but not even close to the high you get from being on one side of a game. most gamblers are not that disciplined simply to scalp day after day and make their money.

Right but this is where the issue of discipline comes. Swings of that magnitude are quite rare but what if you didn't take the original +120 on Team A and instead went for Team B at -140?

In that scenario the right thing to do is to scalp out for a guaranteed loss but a true gambler is unlikely to do this and will let the bet ride.

For starters, don't watch the games you bet on. This makes it a thousand times tougher because you're happy, then you're PO'd . . . happy, PO'd . . . happy, PO'd . . . for hours on end.

Watching the games doesn't change the result; the teams don't play any harder or any smarter because you've bet on 'em.

You cant go back to just watching 2 random teams play with no action after years of betting.

Here's a funny story, went up to the casino one night with my whole paycheck after work. We went to play some poker, I did ok grinded for 3 hours and lost 30 bucks. It was time to go, my buddy walked out the door.. I'm on my way behind him. Figure one hand of blackjack to make some profit, I throw a hundred down bet 40. lose that, bet 100, lose that, bet 200 lose that, bet another 200, get 20, dealer draws to 21. Sumthin like that, lost the whole check 600 bucks. Last time I played blackjack. That was the one and only time I ever did that...


They say the one problem most of us sports gamblers have is we feel we need to make a call on every game? I think I don't have to , but most games I do. But I lock into one game and research the hell out of it, and think I have an edge or a strong feeling about what will happen. 21 is more profitable than poker if you know how to play. You have to sit down for hours and hours to make money playing 21, and you can't try to hit and run on a 21 table with continued success without getting very lucky. You have to pick your spots in 21 just like sports betting. In order to do that though you have to be playing for a while. If you don't know what it feels like to have an edge on a bet, then you have never had one.

You need to do something in life that will take away your interest. For instance, join a gym, a sports club, adapt a hobby, read a book, start swimming. ANything man, i started gym and started reading books about health.

You are on a power trip and think it is a self-control issue. Even the so-called experts can't agree why people can't quit gambling. From what I've read about these 12-step programs, they all begin by avowing that they are powerless to stop gambling, just like you are. For starters stay away from sites like these and take your girl or wife or kids somewhere every Saturday and Sunday and don't watch sports. Find friends that don't gamble, and stay away from people and places that do. That's a start. I don't mean to be rude, but your post was silly bullshit and not very convincing. You don't need any "higher power" to quit, but some friends who have gone through what you are currently going through could be a 'real friend' who just might help you, since he's been there, done that. If nothing else, think what you have stolen from your family and your kids, your wife, etc. If you're serious, you'll stop.
