I like this topic so I'll chime in. This is a novice opinion but I like the following:
Barbaro
Steppenwolfer
Jazil
Sharp Humor
In that order. Get those superfecta tickets ready to go. Just to be safe, I'd box 'em for 24 beans.

Dan, I think Sinister Minister certainly has a shot. He just blew everyone away in the Bluegrass. But I'm a bit concerned about the competition he has run against. That's not to say that he can't win it. A couple of other points:
1) I guess I like Barbaro because Prado had a choice of who to ride and he chose Barbaro.
2) A lot of this stuff I think is heavily dependent upon post position. I think the rail can be fantastic if you have a horse that has stamina issues. All the derby prep races are 1 1/8 mile while the Derby is 1 1/4 mile.
Horses like Jazil, Steppenwolfer and Sharp Humor seem to be closers from where I sit. Steppenwolfer would have beaten Lawyer Ron if the Arkansas Derby were a 1 1/4 miles. I loved what Barbaro did in the Florida Derby where he was able to reach back and run with a comer in Sharp Humor instead of faltering. I think that's important because there will be multiple comers in the stretch and you have to be able to run with the closers.
Jazil and Steppenwolfer seem to be fashionable picks right now which worries me. Again, these are my novice opinions and should not be taken to the bank. I believe I have seen kdmfox and picantel doing a lot of horse race betting commentary in the past on this forum. I think their input in this thread would certainly help.

Good luck boys. I might arb some match-ups in the hours leading up to the race but that's about it.
Betting the horses is a losing proposition for me.

Agreed. Don't quite understand that. Either I'm an idiot or everyone else is....... It is probably the former but this is puzzling. Especially if we get a sloppy track. He would have taken out Bob & John in the Wood if it had been a 1 1/4 mile race.
I think I'm still betting my superfecta box for 24 beans. The post draw really didn't effect me the way I thought it would. I'll probably bet both Steppenwolfer and Jazil to win in this race.
Always a fun day. Good luck to everyone.

Close but no cigar, as the saying goes. It sure was fun though. What's even funnier is that I bet another superfecta ticket with the three that finished in the Top 4 (Barbaro, Steppenwolfer and Jazil). The bad news is that the 4th horse I put in there was Keyed Entry, who finished dead last. Funny stuff.... Superfecta paid $42,230, I believe on a $1 bet.
