    Thumbs up or down
After another eventful weekend I like to look back and give tribute or scorn to things in the world of sports, betting or whatever.

:thumbs_do - to the Vancouver Canucks for missing the NHL playoffs. This talent-laden club who were on many experts' lists of pre-season favorites to win it all have flopped like Shamu.

:thumbs_up - to the Toronto Maple Leafs for missing the NHL playoffs. I'm just glad to avoid the bombardment of LEAFS, LEAFS, LEAFS that goes on around here when they are in the post-season. If they had any talent or realistic shot at anything then fine - go nuts - but this year, it's just as well to bury that carcass ASAP.

    I have to say

:thumbs_up - It has been a beautiful weekend in Toronto. Spring is definitely in the air. No more winter coat - I was wandering around outside in a t-shirt at one point. I barbecue all year round but it has a special feeling at this time of year with people wandering/biking/roller-blading past my balcony at a relaxed pace.

I got my bicycle out of mothballs and have been riding a lot. That is a very good thing except that, for the first little while I have to deal with

    :thumbs_do - bicycle butt

      One more thing:

:thumbs_up - to the movie, An Unfinished Life which I rented. It's weird what happened with this movie. After it was made, it sat on the shelf for 2-3 years for some reason. Then it had a limited theatrical release which went almost unnoticed. Now it's quietly out on DVD. I'm telling you, it's a pretty good movie. It stars Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lopez. I'm not saying it's not flawless or anything but it's very worthwhile IMO.

Vancouver not making the playofffs is suprising. although, the leafs not making them doesn't suprise me at all. I perty much knew Toronto would have a horrid type season this year.

To my beloved Houston Astros who won three road games last week on their first away trip of the year. Houston didn't win their third road game in 2005 until May 25.

To the weather. Been drier than a popcorn fart around these parts for more than a year, and reaching 99° on Easter Sunday is ridiculous even by our standards. Gonna' be a long, dry, hot summer, I fear.
