    Explosive Walter Payton book. I hope it's false info

    Big Walter Payton fan here. This would really suck if half of what the author's spewing is true. Any non-believers?

      of course it's true. but a large percentage of sbr forumites never even saw him play and many never heard of him, so why is this a big deal.

          I think the common opinion of Walter was that he was a class guy, hence the name "sweetness"

          None of this sounds much like his character, although it's interesting to note that his wife wasn't a part of the people the author talked to.

          The taking of pain medication isn't surprising considering what a fierce competitor he was.

          Book doesn't change one bit how I think of him.

            It's Walter Payton. His code of ethics are supposed to be superior than that of a Michael Vick. This guy did everything right. He was a quiet warrior.

                  Agree, this is some of their lives off the field, these guys walk around in pain 24/7 so not surprising this takes place. This is the not to glamorous side of football.

                  I meet Mark Bortz (Bears fans would know who this is) one time in Laughlin, dude couldn't even make a fist or shake a hand because it his hand was so mangled.

                      First off, TTw, you're an idiot.

                      Second, I'm a Packer fan. But full respect to Mark Bortz. Dan Hampton used to hate McMahon, but he fully respected Mark Bortz. That Bears Super Bowl team was something else. Cocky as hell, but talent to back it up. Best single-season team? They're right there. I loved hearing the old Super Bowl Bear stories on the Chicago radio.

                      Side note, that Bears team produced an incredible # of future Head Coaches.
                      * HC was Ditka
                      * DC Buddy Ryan would go on to become HC in Phi/Ariz (albeit somewhat a failure as HC)
                      * Jeff Fisher
                      * Ron Rivera
                      * Leslie Frazier (would have been great player, but for the knee injury)
                      * Mike Singletary
                      * ball boys on team were Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan
                      ...Jim Harbaugh was drafted two years after Super Bowl (I believe)
                      Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

                              Happy Birthday Walter Payton.

                              The man would have been 65 years old today.
