Come on, people: Problem gamblers sue casinos for $3.5 bln
TORONTO (Reuters) - Thousands of problem gamblers in have launched a $3.5 billion class action lawsuit in Ontario, saying they were allowed into provincially run casinos despite signing up for a program that should have denied them entry.

According to the CBC's website, the suit was filed earlier this week in Toronto, claiming the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. did not fully enforce a "self exclusion" program that allows problem gamblers to ban themselves from casinos.

Those who sign up for the program are photographed and their personal information is stored in binders at all of the province's casinos.

If program members are caught trying to enter a casino they can be arrested for trespassing.

According to the CBC, gamblers who had signed up for the program said it was not working, including one who returned frequently for years after signing up for the program

I do have compassion for problem gamblers, as I have compassion for all people who suffer. I even have compassion for annoying people who suffer, although less than I have for decent people who suffer. But come on, now.

To recap: these dudes went to casinos and lost. They couldn't stop going, so they made a program where it is illegal for them to go to a casino. Then, even though it was illegal for them to go, a situation they themselves requested, they went anyway. And lost again, I presume. And then, sued the casinos for not enforcing a rule that the gamblers themselves put into place and then violated!

Next I think these guys should make another rule that if they ever sue someone, they get arrested. I'm sure that one won't work too well either.

Again, I do have compassion for these people, but come on.

From last year, an article explaining how much of a joke this program was: http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/200...agreement.html

The crazy thing is that it the OLGC has actually settled a bunch of these cases. wtf. No wonder there is a class action suit now.

This case has been lost before, even with facts better for the gamblers.
