Interesting contest. Certainly a program could be written to calculate the number of winning scenarios for any given player. As a prerequisite to this of course, you'd need to assemble the "picks" (numerical assignments in this case) of all other contestants. Indeed this would be the prerequisite for doing any scenario analysis or enumeration for any parimutuel type betting tournament.

Taking this to the next level and using it to estimate winning probabilities would require estimates of all potential future money lines. (For example, what would the money line be were George Mason to play Bradley in the finals?) There are many different ways to come up with these estimates, with the degree of accuracy typically inversely proportional to the amount of effort expended in deriving them.

Ganchrow you are a genius man!

Sir may I please ask you, Is there
a possibility that marijuana can assist in making someone a
better handicapper? I would like your opinion on this.

            Thank you sir.

              Uhh ... maybe?

              But then again probably not.

Just a thought, but perhaps this theory might be posited to better effect on a psychopharmacology forum?

But anyway, IMHO, the path to better handicapping is probably better lit by the fire of the midnight oil rather than that of the afternoon bong hit. That being said, if you happen to find that potrelaxes you without overly hampering your ability to concentrate and form lucid thoughts, well then by all means go on ahead ... I'm certainly not going to be the one to stop you.

Certainly can allow you to look at situations in a new way, but with that said, if you are doing it all the time you are likely opening yourself up to overbetting and making mistakes in handicapping judgement. But to each his own.

One must always remember that if you do your statistical analysis drunk, high, etc. You must also place your picks while you are drunk, high, etc. as you would not be in the same mindset otherwise.

You got that right. I have made some crazy bets while drunk. I would probablly not have made half of those bets sobar.

If I remember my psychology classes correctly, I believe this is called 'state-dependant gambling'.
