is there money to be made on spring training games this year?

with the WBC starting today, i wonder how this will effect some of these spring training games in regards to strategies and capping styles.

It shouldn't effect the games I don't think. Obviously you have to look at each game independently. Best things to do are read up on the minor leaguers that will be playing, news(someone is hurting, pitcher trying new pitch, what the manager is saying...etc)

Every year it always seems like the lower tier major league clubs (D-Rays, Royals, Tigers, Nationals) are always the top spring teams. ...if that means anything or not..but it's usually pretty consistent which teams are on top. Teams like the Yankees and Red Sox are always at the bottom

If all those darn Dominicans would play it would certainly take a lot of lumber out of the first half of spring games

ST games are a real crapshoot; you go with your gut and fade the favorites would seem to be one strategy.

I'd think it has something to do with fighting for roster spots. With a team like the Yankees, you know who's going to start, who's going to play, so Spring Training is just going through the motions. For lower-tier teams, you don't have a HOF roster, so there's more young guys trying to prove themselves, more vets trying to keep their spots, and just an overall higher level of interest and motivation.

most likely that's the reason. one hand you have players for the D-Rays playing their hearts out...other hand you have Gary Sheffield hitting .050
