    Positive Experience at BetBBB
I don’t really want to get into all the details, but I made a “rookie” mistake betting a prop scalp for the Super Bowl, but seem to have gotten retroactively bailed out by BetBBB.

It didn’t occur to me until well after I had placed the bets, but the player prop in question—although worded virtually identically at the two books—could plausibly be interpreted differently. I checked the wager pages again at the two books and noticed that the other book had a note specifying how it would be interpreted, while BetBBB did not.

I thought about dropping them a quick call, but the game was starting, the odds had long since changed, etc., so if I got bad news from them it wasn’t as if I had any realistic hope of canceling both bets. So I decided just to ride it out.

Naturally the ambiguous outcome occurred, and naturally I was credited with a push/cancel on one side and a loss on the other.

I called both books the next day, not to complain but just to get a clarification on the grading and to see how committed they were to their interpretations. Both were polite and cooperative, but not surprisingly both were firm in their interpretation of the prop.

I didn’t really have a beef with either one. The other book had specified what they’d do in advance, and while BetBBB had not done that, in all honestly I felt like their interpretation was marginally more plausible. That is, you could make a case either way, but I’d have probably graded the prop the way BetBBB did had I been some kind of arbitrator.

Well, anyway the end of the story is I didn’t happen to check my BetBBB account for two or three weeks after that. Then when I did, I discovered the money from that losing wager had been returned to my account. No note in my account, no e-mail to me or anything, just an unexpected chunk of extra money in my account.

I’m not sure if other people complained and they ended up changing the grading on it for everyone across the board or what, but I don’t think they were obligated to do so, and even if they paid off some complainers to placate them, they certainly could have gotten away with not paying me, since I had long since dropped the matter and in fact made it clear to them when I spoke with them that I wasn’t upset with their ruling.

So I’d categorize this as “above and beyond the call of duty,” and hence worth mentioning.

Prior to this, I’ve had mixed experiences with this book, but more positive than negative. They may be worth a try for those not yet playing there.
