Yeah, a lot like Purdue/Michigan yesterday. We're talking in both cases about sweet 16 contenders vs. teams that might not even be NIT-worthy. I'm aware that any team can beat any team at home in the B10, but I think that better applies to the "dog days" of the B10 later in the season. In the opener, the contending team needs to get off to a strong start to set the tone. No letdown. I'm on Illinois -4 too. Not sure I like the over though. You cannot compare a Wisconsin/MSU game from a few years ago to today. Back in the mid-2000s the Big Ten was starved of talent, teams with no talent usually take a lot of bad shots, miss open looks, and play slow down ball because they can't score.
This year, the Big Ten is the best conference in America, stacked with teams loaded with talented veterans like Jon Leuer and JuJuan Johnson and McDonalds All-Americans like Jereme Richmond, Keith Appling, and Jared Sullinger. Plus, Iowa has a new coach who likes to play uptempo, but with such a bad team at his disposal all that means is they're not going to play defense.
The line is a joke, a cautious one posted because its still winter break and Illinois lost to UIC. They'll win big because at the end of the day, if you want to finish in the top 5 of the Big Ten and get that first round bye in the Big Ten Tournament, you *must* sweep teams like Penn State, Indiana, and Iowa.Comment -
