"Lack of Blacks Makes Olympics Look Like a GOP Convetnion" - Bryant Gumble
Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ... So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin.
Personally doesn't bother me, but can see how people could get upset with being some type of double standard. Gumble is a bit of an ass, but he says what he thinks and I like it.

After nearly two weeks of media carping about a slow federal response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster, tonight ABC will air a story critical of the federal government for listing a charity which is providing hurricane relief -- one founded by Pat Robertson. Viewers of Thursday's World News Tonight were treated to this promo: “Tomorrow: He wanted the U.S. to assassinate a world leader. Now the U.S. is recommending his charity as second only to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina donations. The politics of Katrina relief and Pat Robertson, tomorrow, only on World News Tonight.” (As the announcer said that, ABC displayed video clips of Robertson, Hugo Chavez, hurricane destruction, the name “Operation Blessing” and Robertson with a frowning face as he prayed.)I don't know how the feds made Operation Blessing “second only to the Red Cross,” but below are links to Operation Blessing and a FEMA press release which lists Operation Blessing fourth, after the Humane Society. And why should victims suffer just because the founder of one relief group, who has nothing to do with day-to-day operations, said something dumb? UPDATED 9:10pm EDT with what aired.

These statements are inappropriate. Just like the Air Force coach who said that his program needed to recruit more blacks because they are better athletes.

An insincere apology will be coming soon.

So let me get this straight, Bryant...If I say a few guys are world-class athletes, that means they have to be black? Are you idiotic enough to think that the individuals winning medals in these competitions are not the best athletes in their respective events? Stop perpetuating the stereotype, loser. It IS rather impressive that you managed to label and offend 2 major groups of people in one sentence without using any connectors. Even BeantownJim has trouble doing that!

What a dumb thing to say. Can you imagine what they would do to a white basketball announcer if he said 'there are so many blacks on the floor its like being at the democratic convention'???

          Correct
          Correct
          Correct

Or perhaps our friendly neighborhood white announcer could make his way to the Howard University Academic Award Ceremony and mouth off something like, "Oh sure like this is really a great collection of intelligence despite a dearth of white people that makes me feel like I'm at a state penitentiary."

Good job, Bryant. I suppose cyclists and swimmers are also poor athletes because there's a "paucity of blacks" in those sports. Perhaps we should apply the wonderful "Affirmative Action" system and require that a specific ratio of black athletes attempt to make the way on the downhill or give them their shot at the ski jump or take a ride on the luge. Yeah, that will yield some ratings, dumbass.
