If this bleeds into hoops it will be bad.

If this shit somehow jeopardizes hoops post season, again, I don't even know what to say.

I certainly think it will be in the spring. Moving all these dates and venues may make it hard.

What's going to be different come springtime?

Fauci and his cronies aren't going to declare anything safe enough to resume normalcy until there's a vaccine they can pimp to the public, and there's no guarantee they'll have it by spring.

Maybe another remdesevir type treatment or we know much more about the long term effects or not.

Dude, big deal... Everyone and their mom was saying there wasn't going to be college football. If you want credit for that, you'd better get in line.

Furthermore I didn't "call out" anyone on that very particular, I was just trying to bring a glimmer of hope to the discussion in the "five percent" thread. I knew it was a longshot, obviously.

Not true. Many people here kept saying "there is too much money at stake to cancel"

Bullsheet. The virus is dictating things. The virus calls the shot not the empty suits. The players? They started demanding their health be considered #1.

I called this result a month ago but only a handful here were onboard with me.

I mean if you want the award, you can have it. But the general sense I had was that college football was always going to be a longshot, and NFL more like 50/50. I just thought it odd that AD's kept dragging the issue out when they had to have known fall football just wasn't in the cards, no matter how much money they stand to lose..

Colleges are not cancelling the season because of the virus. They are cancelling because they cannot sell tickets and load up the stadiums. Alabama packs in 100,000 fans, even at a conservative number like $100/ticket, that is $10 mil PER GAME. Multiply that by 7 home games..... that is $70 mil before parking, concessions, licensed merchandise, local hotels/restaurants, . If there are no fans, the only revenue is television, and that is only 20-25% of college revenue.

NFL is a different story, their TV revenue is 70-75% of their total income. They can survive with no fans. College cannot.

Easy answer. There is so much cash to be made that they had no choice but to wait until the 11th hour which is where we are right now, to make a decision. It wasn't until the flattened COVID case curve began to turn upward again in early july that all of the momentum for canceling the season even truly started. In mid to late June, we were looking pretty good for college foots kicking off because the case curve was truly flattening and it looked we in the USA were gaining control.
