I knew when Carolina ran that 2-pointer back that my New Orleans -4 1/2 for the 2nd half was a dead bet. Even when they got close to the end zone I thought they would get a first down on the one yard line and run out the clock.

who told the Saints after they converted the 4th and inches by correctly putting the ball in the hands of an agile, young RB to on the next 3rd down... with the ability to

a. score a TD and ice the game

b. get a first down short of the endzone and ice the game

c. get stopped short of a first down but stay in bounds and run the clock all the way down to 1 min left then decide what to do

back to my question. who told Payton "Hey, let's get overly creative and cute and put the ball in the arms of a tiny wr who doesn't understand that he needs to stay in bounds and protect from fumbling first and foremost" before trying some crazy move and extending the ball out well short of the pylon with 2 defenders coming right at him.
