DraftKings Already Sending Out Emails Regarding SCOTUS Ruling & Sports Betting

    Dear therxforum/SBR-com,

Today the United States Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). This decision legalizes sports betting - and it's great news for sports fans. DraftKings believes life is more fun when you have skin in the game, so we'd like to share what today's news means for you, our valued customers.

Since DraftKings was founded in 2012, our mission has been to bring fans closer to the games they love. Today's ruling will allow us to further drive fan engagement by harnessing our proven technology to provide you with an innovative online sports betting product.

DraftKings is uniquely positioned to succeed in this dynamic, new market. We are the world's largest daily fantasy sports platform with almost 10 million users. As an American company, we have a unique, authentic understanding of American sports fans, and already have strong relationships with professional leagues and teams.

So, when can you expect to place a wager through DraftKings? The timing will depend on when individual states move to pass the necessary legislation and set up the regulatory framework that will allow online sports betting. We're hopeful states will move quickly, but lawmakers need to hear directly from fans like you. You can take action right now by using our tool to contact your lawmakers.

Even with today's announcement, DraftKings remains fully committed to daily fantasy sports, which will continue to be a major focus for the company. In fact, sports betting and DFS already co-exist in many parts of the world. This powerful combination, combined with live streaming sports and original content, will position DraftKings - The Game Inside The Game - at the center of your fan experience. To celebrate with us, play tonight in the NBA $10K Celebration Free Contest.

As always, we'll keep you in the loop every step of the way, so be on the lookout for updates. For now, this is a huge win for sports fans everywhere and we're excited for another opportunity to bring our fans closer to the games they love.

    Sincerely,

    DraftKings

LOL @ "platform with 10 million users"

I'm sure the majority of those include people like me who don't even look at it anymore and haven't for a couple of seasons since they made changes and jacked up the rake to obscene levels.

same kind of people who buy apple products. They don't care about the best deal or best product.

Draftkings is the biggest winner. Nearly every American knows draftkings, 99% have no idea who the offshore books are.

They have a huge userbase with connected CC's and checking accounts.....I imagine fantasy gets played less when a book is available...

they will get bought out by the operators of real sports betting
and casino corps... who are going to run the state land-based operations.

The news will probably be a big boom to fantasy at first, but like the poker boom there will be a gradual decline until it levels off

Exactly, with that kind of data base, everything can be easily converted over when they become a full fledged book. I like play'in fantasy there, competition is relatively soft and they have great contests.

kinda like how in the original case w/ New Jersey, the plaintiffs were the 4 major sports leagues, all strenuously opposed to legalized gambling, then the NBA commish comes out and says it should be legal-while involved in litigation to prevent it

it's business, they'll always speak out of both sides of their mouths if there's a buck to be made on either side...

Although I've played it since very young & well before DFS sites came along, I've always looked at Fantasy Sports as the minor leagues of sports betting.

In my opinion most play it because:

    1. It's Legal

    2. They've never been introduced to sports betting

Once you start betting real games, it's like graduating to the big leagues.

I've debated with many Fantasy supporters over the years about whether the hobby/business would survive if we ever saw legalization.

They claim there will alwaya be a market for fantasy players.

That may be true, but my argument has been that those numbers will dwindle in time as players now legally get a taste of of what real betting looks & feels like.

Fantasy and sports betting are two entirely different things. That’s like saying the poker tables at the casino will suffer because sports betting is legal.

    lol

I just wrote a detailed post on how the two are completely different animals. I deleted it because it's a lesson I just don't want to teach right now.

The short version...fantasy is a joke and all those who play with the goal of winning money should be mocked, even if they win consistently.

Those who play for fun have been manipulated out of what's relevant to win at sports betting. Which is just as well, they aren't winning at either.

The season long leagues will still be played since a lot of them are played by groups of friends, but the DFS nonsense will likely suffer (maybe become extinct).

DFS ain’t going anywhere. It’s a mix between sports betting and tournament game theory. There will be cross pollination of DFS & traditional sports bettors once DK offers both on their existing easy to use app with no fee cc ability.
