because it's Thursday - and it just went Category 3.
They are thinking Cat 5 in Puerto Rico early next week.
But they haven't decided to scare everyone yet because
they can't make projections for where landfall will be yet in the US.

    Here's a famous meteorologist's map. Same thing.
They know it will pick up more speed based on ocean temperatures
    along its path.

Yeah I hear you. News is still covering all the stuff with Houston also. This Irma could end up being nothing though. Way to early to tell.

Those aren't wind speeds, they're number of hours from the time the model was run

Wasn't trying to bury OP. It could still be a bad storm and hope it stays away from the US. 240mph winds would be some Day After Tomorrow shit though

240 it's tornado wind speed. But even at 140, would be a monster of a hurricane. I heard a cold front might be on it's way and chances are it will linger over the Atlantic water and head north-ish. Will see.

Hurricanes projected this far in advance can easily change course and be reduced within days.

Isn't significant unless projected within 72 hours of hitting land.

ok not 240 maybe just 130-190.
official reports are not eager to
    forecast past Cat 4 yet.
look how well Houston and Beaumont
    were warned...not warned well, were
    they....

Right now, the GFS has Irma taking a more northerly track that curves to the north
before it reaches the Caribbean, thus making a US landfall much less likely.....

The European model keeps the storm tracking further west and into the
Caribbean by the middle of next week then possibly hitting Miami..........

The European model, or ECMWF, and the American GFS model have had some
notable showdowns before, most notably with Hurricane Sandy.......

With Sandy, the ECMWF correctly predicted a landfall in the northeast
nearly a week ahead, while the GFS continually kept the storm offshore...............

Powerful Hurricane Irma could be next weather disaster

Longer term computer models still vary widely but suggest that Irma will make landfall in the U.S. either in the Gulf of Mexico or Florida.**Meteorological Scientist Michael Ventrice of the Weather Channel is forecasting windspeeds of up to 180 mph, which he described as the*"highest windspeed forecasts I've ever seen in my 10 yrs of Atlantic hurricane forecasting."

WeatherChannel.com - You thought CNN was bad? There's more drama on that website... than any other website ever produced.

I understand Harvey was devastating. But, come on people... it's weather. Are they ever accurate and right about everything? Typically not.

Those "top stories" are ridiculous. Almost like watching FAKE NEWS.
