The Republican Party has spent the past four years publicly attempting to turn the Benghazi embassy attack into a scandal first for President Obama, and more recently for Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. But what do the Republicans really think of the attack they’ve tried to hard to politicize over the years? It turns out that the two most recent Republican Secretaries of State believe the years of Benghazi investigations have been nothing more than a “stupid witch hunt.”
Now that Colin Powell’s private emails have been hacked and made public, a number of revelations are coming to light about how the former Army General and former Secretary of State views the inner workings of a Republican Party which he’s been increasingly uneasy with since he retired from politics. “Benghazi is a stupid witch hunt,” Powell stated in an email last December which he sent to his Secretary of State successor, Condoleezza Rice. Her response: “Completely agree.”
In other words, even as the current Republicans in Congress continue to try to scandalize the 2012 Benghazi attack in an attempt to create headaches for Obama and Clinton, the two Republicans who held Clinton’s job directly before her are now both on record as privately agreeing that the years of investigations and hearings have been nothing more than a politicized waste of time. This can only serve to further take the wind out of the sails of the Republicans who are still trying to find a way to scandalize the Benghazi tragedy.
This isn’t the only major revelation from Colin Powell’s leaked emails. He also considers current Republican Party nominee Donald Trump to be a “racist” and a “national disgrace.” Powell went out of his way to defend President Obama against Trump’s racially motivated claims that Obama was somehow born outside the United states
