I was there in the Fall of 1979 when Crazy George started the first version of "The Wave". Arrowhead back then had very distinct sections. Crazy George would have a drum and pounded it in one section and the crowd would yell. Then would run to the next section and pound the drum and that section would yell. Then he would point at the next section and by then the next section would cheer and then the next until the cheering went around the stadium.
It was louder than a tornado going through Tracy, Minnesota.

I live in FL now. North of Jax. Hometown of Derrick Henry.
I saw every HS game of his. Not fair. Man vs boys.
I havent been back to KC for years.

I had to go to the catholic school in Tracy. Tornado leveled the grade school.
That F'ing tornado warning siren was in our back yard attached to the Armory.
Every noon that thing went off and drove our poor Golden crazy.

The year Iowa went to the Rose Bowl, 81 season. Game JAN 1 82
FH and I took a charted bus from Iowa City to LA with 3 other buses of Iowa fanatics. Non stop drinking the whole way. 229 bucks, included everything and a stop in Vegas. Old Frontier. We saw Siegfried and Roy at the Frontier.
FH bet a fistfull on the Hawks. Had to run to the The Stardust was the only book and he had to run like hell there and back to the bus to get down before the bus left. 28 to zero. Jacques Robinson killed us. Now famous for his son, Nate
Sucker bet. First time team playing in the Rose Bowl. -3.5 fav. If not for that FH would have never lived there. I lived there about ten years and he is still there.
Non stop trip after the RoseBowl. I think we were on that bus 48 straight hours. Blizzard and just crawling back across NE and Iowa.
FH camaro was totally buried in the snow. All you could see was the Antenna. Luckily we could just walk through the drifts to the frat.
He did one of the most amazing things I have ever seen on the way back. He bought a case of warm bud on the way back and drank the whole thing.
The 1982 Rose Bowl was a college football game played on January 1, 1982, in Pasadena, California. The Washington Huskies (Pac-10) shut out the Iowa Hawkeyes (Big Ten) 28-0. Washington freshman running back Jacque Robinson rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, earning Player of the Game honors. [1, 2]
*I can say that the Iowa natives were really excited b4 that game. Was a break-thru:
1) I had to remember that John Alt was on that team. Transitioned from TE to OT later.
2) Hallstrom and Hilgenberg were future NFL Off Linemen.
3) Also, Mark Bortz on that team. Later, a Bear. Another convert to Off Line.
4) Bob/Mike Stoops as DB.
5) The GREAT Andre Tippett as Def End.
6) Reggie Roby as punter. Remember the crazy leg extension? RIP.
7) Bill Snyder as OC. Would later lead amazing revival at KanSt.

We beat Michigan, Nebraska and UCLA that year. I remember FH and all of Iowa being so excited we were guranteed a winning season.
What put us in the Rose Bowl was the biggest Degen of all Art Schlichter beating Michigan to seal our trip.
Somebody at the game had a tv and everyone went nuts.
The night before I saw the Stones at UNI and had to get back for the game the next day.
FH can tell a better story. I also remember after the game FH stumbled into the Frat literally frozen.
I have never seen someone so blue. He passed out in his car and woke up luckily
Lots of crazy drinking stories back then. The frat always had a keg of beer on game day by 10am

Bigger picture I think. I will put up on the web players at that game. I just remember my guy from MN . Bert Blyleven getting rocked. He may have been a rookie. Fuk I am old.
