Love this time of year waiting to see what kind of trades teams "in the hunt" make.

Well, the first major trade is Mariners acquiring Josh Naylor from the Dbacks. Who knew the Mariners would be the first to spend money. Didn't see that coming. Nice pick up for them imo. Their lineup is getting stout. Be interesting if they end up going all in and also acquiring back Suarez in the coming days.

Hey Nasher, you think Royals will end up sending Lugo back to the Mets?

Good pickup for them. Could mean Suarez may be a Mariner again

I hope not; it was Lugo and Ragans that got us to the playoffs last season.
When Lugo's yakker is on, it's one of the most devastating pitches in the game.
Take it from me, I couldn't hit a curve for shit, and Lugo's curve has left many a slugger talking to themselves on the way back to the bench after strike three.

The Josh Naylor deal was the steal of the day so far.

I know about Lugo, he was a Met for years. He just had problems with command back in those days. He figured it out when he was shipped your way.

He had devastating stuff on MLB the show as well.

Yep, I was hoping for something better than that. Could use another hitter not another middle of the road bullpen arm.

Ya, I wouldn't take that trade. Cease is not nearly the pitcher he was and definitely is no where near the level of Duran as a player.

Tigers need to get something here. Free fall. I’d even trade Skubal for a haul, he’s outta here anyway.

MLB trade deadline Urgency Index 3.0: Who needs what? Who needs it the most?

The Athletic has live coverage of the 2025 MLB trade deadline.

Trade deadline week is finally here.

And so is the third and final version of The Athletic’s Urgency Index — our look at which teams need a boost the most over the next four days. It’s been fascinating to see the ways this list has evolved since it first ran on June 12 and again on July 2. Each time, for instance, the team that needed a bat the most acquired one: San Francisco brought in Rafael Devers, and Seattle traded for Josh Naylor. (We have a good feeling we’ll go 3-for-3 on that one.)

Like each of the last two times, it’s Tim Britton breaking down bats, Eno Sarris on starters and Aaron Gleeman on relievers.
Bats The void in San Diego’s left field could fill, I don’t know, something the size of a warehouse. The Padres rank 28th in left-field production this season, which has improved since they moved Gavin Sheets there from DH. Problem is, their DHs now rank 29th in production across the majors. The Padres have scored two runs or fewer 11 times in the past month.

The bad news is San Diego desperately needs to add a bat to that mix, and desperation isn’t a great look in late July. The good news is that the bar is so low for improvement that the Padres’ lineup will look much better with even a league-average bat in left. The Friars could look to upgrade behind the plate as well. If you check out the major-league leaders in offense in July, the Astros remain a Top 10 outfit. So why do they rank so highly here? The injury to Isaac Paredes might prove to be one too many maladies to overcome. Paredes joins Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pe

The lefty Soto was brilliant in the seventh. He made Devers look stupid on that weak ass, 8-bounce dribbler back to the mound.

Ya Soto looked good. Nothing new with Diaz. He always brings me to the brink of hospitalization but gets the job done. Probably seen that 20 times minimum this season. He loves to create all sorts of trouble for himself before getting the outs.

That Indian scandal is going to turn into a giant stink storm that's going to make that moron Manfred very cranky.

Wait for it, unless the MLB executive empty suits put a lid on this.

Emmanuel Clase, the Cleveland Guardians reliever who is one of the league’s top closers, was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through Aug. 31 as part of a sports betting investigation, Major League Baseball announced on Monday.

Fellow Cleveland pitcher Luis Ortiz is already under the same parameters. The league initially sidelined Ortiz on July 3, and then extended his leave after the All-Star break.

“We have been informed that no additional players or club personnel are expected to be impacted,” the Guardians said in a statement. “The Guardians are not permitted to comment further at this time and will respect the league’s confidential investigative process as we continue to fully cooperate.”

Clase, 27, had been one of the more popular trade candidates this month, with plenty of contenders seeking bullpen reinforcements. He led the American League in saves each of the last three seasons and finished third in the voting for AL Cy Young in 2024, thanks to a 0.61 ERA.
