#5I honestly don't think I have watched one of his starts. Mets haven't played them in a series he pitched that I can remember and I haven't had a night where I said to myself "I need to watch a Pirate game"Comment -

#8Matt Havey is probably the greatest HS pitcher out of Connecticut.
The Harveys have been in Mystic/New London forever. He's one of ours.
They have property near the USCG submarine base in Groton.
His old man played centerfield for UConn and was a linebacker in football.
I don't know how NCAA scholarships work, but I'm told UNC offered Matt a scholarship he couldn't refuse.
I tend to believe this, there's no other reason why he would have left here for North Carolina.
Matt'll be OK, he's been clean and sober for years, he has money, and he'll be making more money going forward.Comment -

His home is a ten-minute straight shot to Mohegan Sun.
That Mystic/Old Saybrook/Rhode Island area is loaded with money.
You have the hedge fund brokers to the south, and the 'goodfellas' from Providence from the north.
Matt had an eight-year head start on the party scene even before he hit Citi.
Hey Unde, talk me through your thought process as this play was developing.
On the very first pitch, in the first inning, Escobar hits a liner to the gap that makes Cespedes look like a Bush Leaguer.
You just knew the Mets were doomed on the very first pitch.
(I apologize for that, I couldn't resist)

#12Hey I am not ever going to say one bad thing about Cespedes. Even though we only really got a year out of the guy because he got hurt he was one of the main reasons we got to the WS along with Murphy and the emergence of the rookie Conforto. Cespedes was a beast that year and changed the team immediately when arriving.Comment -

#14Skenes seems way less interested in fame and late night activities and a lot more focused on baseball than Harvey.Comment -

#16I was playfully busting my buddy Unde's chops.
Cespedes was a much better defender than most give him credit for.
One of two things happened on that play: either Cespedes was mindful of a collision out there, or the lighting made the ball difficult to judge.
Sometimes, "I lost the ball in the lights" is a valid reason, not just an excuse.
I spent almost all of my entire scholastic career behind the plate, but after shagging flies in the OF during batting practice made me realize those outfielders have a nano-second to react to a ball hit their way, there's no way in hell I could play outfield.
The Mets (and the Red Sox) both had Cespedes and JD Martinez for some time.
When the Sox obtained Cespedes, I really thought he'd crush it at Fenway, but it didn't work out there.
Some pitchers, no matter how good they are, can't seem to pitch in Yankee Stadium, and some hitters, no matter how good they are, get spooked at Fenway and just can't cut it there.
JD Martiez?
Without a doubt, one of the finest hitters against LHP.
JD was a beast vs. LHP
Serious question, whatever happened to Timo Perez?
This remains my favorite play of the entire 2015 postseason.
(Last one, Mr. Unde, I promise)

Cubs 8-3 Pirates (May 1, 2025) Game Recap - ESPN
Ouch!
It's too bad that the Cubs lost their ace for the season. I seriously thought that the "Loveable Losers" were poised to make a deep October run.
That lineup is lethal, and they had pitching, too.Comment
