The Nets are one of the best Starting 5's in NBA History.

D Will- Top 2 PG in the NBA just entering his prime. Will go down as a top 10 PG of all time when it's all said and done.

Joe Johnson - A consistent All Star ever year. Good for 18 5 and 5 just about every year. Clutch performer.

Paul Pierce- 1st ballot HOFmer, the third best Celtic of all time. People said he was "done" last year. Didn't he average 18 5 and 5? Still a go-to-guy and his game has never been about athleticism.

Kevin Garnett- a top 5 Power Forward in NBA history and easily a top 5 PF in the NBA today. Probably better than Chris Bosh. One of the best passing big men of all time and 1st ballot Hofmer too.

Brook Lopez- Another solid All Star. Great season last year. Guy is a true center. Very big. A guy that averaged 19 ppg last year is gonna be the 4th or 5th option on this team.

This is easily one of the best starting 5's in NBA history. These guys have to stay healthy though. I think they will. And I think they'll make a run.

Jason Kidd is going to shock a lot of people. But aside from him you got 5 unselfish players on the court. I'm interested to see how this is going to come together.

My only worry is that everyone on this team is too unselfish. They have to understand that they're all playing around D Williams. He is the guy.

    A) They don't need a bench. Miami didn't have a bench and they cruised to the finals their first year together. People said the same thing about no bench. If Lebron didn't choke, they would have won with no bench.

    B) How old was avery johnson when he took Dallas to the finals in 06? Didn't people say the same thing about Avery?

    Oh my fukking god.

    Unreal. Truly.

You're talking, theoretically, if everyone was in their prime?

There is a reason Boston blew itself up. D.Will is a regular season hero. Joe Johnson is one of the worst contracts in the NBA (that isn't said about superstars). I like Brook, but he isn't phenomenal. Very good offensively, maybe worst rebounding big man in the league?

Brook's game is the mid-range, where KG has lived in recent years.

I don't see it. It takes these kinds of things at least 1 year for chemistry building, their window is 1 year.

no, right now... if everyone was in their prime, it obviously would be the best starting 5 in history bar none...that's not the situation.

hippo, yeah, same guys laughed at me when i said miami was gonna be a dynasty on this site 3 years ago. they said bron and wade were premedonas that wouldn't win together and would get bullied in the playoffs.

    who's laughing now?

i dont usually agree with goat
    ..
but this is a very good starting five.....even with pp and kg being at the tail end.....and as a kid born in 1980....pp is my personal fave celtic(his career is underappreciated)....and at times ive gotten so frustrated lately at his inability to shake a defender(hes older/slower)....i still think this lineup could cause problems

Bob Cousy? John Havlicek? Kevin McHale? Sam Jones? Robert Parrish? Pierce right on the fringe imo of the top 10

But that is not the point of the thread, so I will agree the lineup is pretty good. But not best ever

I agree that lineup is very strong and it will be hard for Lebron to carry those scub teammates up against them. Being in a very weak east will help them be in the top 3 with Miami, and New York/Indiana. Jason Kidd gets lucky as hell to get this team as his First coaching Job.

The 2013-14 New Jersey Nets are going to look a lot like the 2012-13 Los Angeles Lakers.

I can't believe they would give away three first-round picks just to get bounced in the first round.

They need a bench as KG and Pierce should be capped at 30 min a game. Lopez plays no D, Johnson is in decline of an average career and the only league DW is a top 2 pg is WNBA. Other than that the Nets have a great starting 5.

And you guys aren't going to like my theory but... (just like Deuce said) I feel the same way. Pierce and Garnett may not like the idea but either one or both will play 2nd string... let them come off the bench. They are at the point in their careers they have to man up and understand they are ancient. Either come off the bench or don't play.

Nope. These players are smart and unselfish players. Dwight is a mental midget. The only thing stupid bout the trade is they gave away 3 1st round picks

and they are too old. They will sleep walk through the season trying to save what energy they have left for the playoffs.

If they could skip the regular season they might be aight

with all these stars, it will take time to mesh
gonna take time to learn a new system and build chemistry
not sure if KG or pierce will stick around long enuff for that to happen
