Bask coach Lou Carnesecca: dead at age 99

Hall of Fame college basketball coach Lou Carnesecca, who won more than 500 games at St. John's, has died at the age of 99.

Don't care if you liked him or didn't like him. He was a part of history.

Was a Big East coach when the Big East exploded onto the national scene. Intersected with the emergence of ESPN. A smile comes to my face when I think about John Thompson (Georgetown) showing off the sweater that Louie got him.

I'm sure Chris Mullin will speak fondly of Louie. I actually hated St John's. I was a Syracuse fan, I liked Pearl Washington.

I really didn't think St John's was good enough to merit a #2 ranking. Then they went to DC and beat top-ranked Georgetown. Mullin was magical with his play-making and dead-eye shooting.

RIP, Coach. Another in the line of coaches who have passed. Add to the list with Crum and Knight going.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Lou Carnesecca passed away yesterday at the age of 99.

But in my mind, he didn't die.

        Legends never die.

Lou is a legend. As a kid, 80s Big East basketball was must see TV and was larger than life.

RIP Lou. Thanks for the memories.

Louie was St. John's, he was the face of St. John's.

The four faces on the Big East ("The Original Catholic Seven") Mount Rushmore are Dave Gavitt, Thompson, Boeheim, and Louie)

Very nice guy, one of the funniest guys you'll ever meet, Louie was as real as real gets.
RIP to a NYC legend, Madison Square Garden mourns today.
