JD Souther dead: Eagles songwriter and hitmaker dies at 78
I liked the Eagles, one of the best shows I ever saw was Chicago opening for The Eagles.
Even if one didn't like the Eagles, there were always a couple of tunes in their catalogue that you could relate to.

RIP JD, you did not just rock but all songwriters proud, and did it consistently for not just years, but decades.

JD Souther dead: Eagles songwriter and hitmaker dies at 78 (msn.com)

This is my favorite lyric out of all their songs.

"You know I don't understand why you don't treat yourself better
Do the crazy things that you do
'Cause all the debutantes in Houston, baby,
Couldn't hold a candle to you."

              A legend in my book.

He Co wrote what might have been the greatest song ever written according to Bob Dylan.

              New Kid In Town 1976.

              Rest in Peace sir.

My list, in no particular order.

                  Allman Brothers
                  Nirvana
Talking Heads (I'm a huge fan)
Grateful Dead (I'm not a Dead head, but they belong)
                  The Doors
                  Aerosmith
                  Eagles
                  Springsteen & E Street Band
                  Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

That's nine, hmm, I wonder who your pal Nasher will round out his top ten list?
                  Hmm.

(OK, raise your hand if you didn't see this one coming)

"Jersey" Joe Walsh is bad ass.
Probably his finest hour there and considering the dude had a thousand finest hours that's saying a lot.

The highlighted one are bands that I neglected but can easily make a case for.

                                *note*
I need to fact check this, but I believe in the seven-year span from 1973-1979 Three Dog Night outsold every other group at the time including The Stones and The Beatles.

Shame on me for neglecting two bands I grew up loving, Chicago and Steely Dan.
I do know Chicago had a top ten album in seven consecutive decades and sold over 100 million units.

I inherited my dad's sports and math genes, on my mom's side. a lot of her family were jazz musicians, my uncle was an accomplished trombonist, my other uncle was a Dixieland pianist, Dixieland is incredibly difficult to master, best I ever heard doing Dixieland was Billy Joel, and shame on me again for omitting Billy Joel, and especially Jimi.

Speaking of Jimi and Chicago, Terry Kath was often referred to as "The White Jimi".
Jimi himself called Terry Kath the best guitarist in the universe and the only guitarist he'd pay actual cash money to see perform.

Why Jimi Hendrix Called Chicago's Terry Kath The Best Guitarist In The Universe - ClassicRockHistory.com

Not for nothing, rock historians say this is the greatest live guitar solo.

Another example of Terry Kath's genius.

If that was at the Capitol Center in Landover, Md. I had tickets as well. I had to opt out though. Don't remember exactly why but probably too much going on or I would have gone in a heartbeat. All my friends went. I Had a full time job that was a ton of hours. I know I was pissed I couldn't go.
Most likely gave my tickets to a friend.

This made me laugh for some reason. I will say this... Hotel California is the most overplayed song in the history of mankind(aside from ANY Rap song in the top 40 in the last 25 years. I'd even rather hear Stairway to Heaven over most of these songs). That being said, my favorite Eagles song is Take it Easy. I highly doubt sensei Terry Silver would like this song, but who knows. Here's a couple different versions for your delight!

Galt that’s cool, Lemonheads are cool, but they didn’t save that song there. Take It Easy is probably one of my least favorite songs of theirs. Just something about them that consistently rubs me the wrong way. And people will say “sure but Joe Walsh, you gotta love Joe Walsh” but I just can’t get into any of it. It’s not just that I can’t get into it, I actively dislike them.

But, whatever. Their greatest hits is always either 1 or 2 in the highest selling albums in history so I get that they have a massive appeal. The other album it jockeys with, Thriller, I could listen to that every day for the rest of my life. So I’m not trying to be contrarian, it’s just me. I also don’t share your disdain for rap, though I do favor the underground variety and haven’t really liked anything that’s come out in years except for the odd release here and there.

But anyway who cares. You guys enjoy your stuff
