#12Hi, Nash. On the wide-angle lens, I'm +48 units ytd, so I'd say that's good.
Did well on some sports. On others, I probably over-stepped my boundaries.
At the moment very slow. In anticipation of football. Nevada +27 got there in style, so that was good.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

Glad to hear that.
You can appreciate this.
I love my Sunday online tournaments because the prize pools are supersized.
Any-Hoo, I like this one particular NLHM ($5.50 entry guaranteed $3,000 prize pool) event.
I sucked out four times all with two outers, including a three way all in.
Short stack called all in with 99, I snapped called with KK, guy two seats to my left calls my all in as well.
You know the feeling; I was like "Oh shit, I just ran into aces"
Yep, flop is three bricks, turn card is my king, the river misses everybody, and I scoop a 400k pot.
Later in I sucked out 88-99 all in, short stack had the nines, normally I put those eights down, but I had him comfortably covered so it made sense to call.
This one is my favorite, I have AJ (diamonds) short stack goes all in with AQ (off), long story short, I back doored the diamond flush.
I haven't been on a heater like this since I won the tournament at Mohegan Sun four years ago.Comment -

There's a saying on how to win Poker tournaments. WIN THE FLIPS.
There's strategy for sure. Some thoughts (in no particular order):
1) Try to win $$ from Fish. So often, it's the chips that are gifted to you. And that's not really skill.
2) When you have strong value hands, you want to extract some value from those hands. Sizing is so tricky. Those are the hands where you DON'T want your Opponent to fold.
3) You need to steal SOME chips via bluff. How many chips do you earn when you would NOT have won those chips had the cards gone face-up?
4) Big folds are key, too. Need to make at least one or two big folds during the tournament. Understand the situation, develop a feel for why your Opponent just fell in love with his hand.
5) The Races you reference are so key. Many poker hand-matchups are 60/40 either way. Have to get lucky to be on the right side of those.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

One thing I learned years ago is that the fish seem to think AK (especially off suit) is automatic.
2-2 is a 53/47 favorite against A-K off suit.
I love Omaha hi-lo.
I love the fish who think A2xx is automatic too.
Jamming preflop with A2xx preflop (especially of you don't have another wheel card to go with it) is just begging for trouble.Comment -

They will, however, ship AK to 30BB. My hand-reading ability is good enough that I can read the AK hand face-up. If I'm holding a middling hand like 66/55, I'm probably calling if I'm catching some odds.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#19I hate AK to the n-th degree. One trend I see is that Opponents DON'T ship AA/KK. They don't want to lose the post-flop value.

As for the poker trend, a lot of guys go so far as just limping AA. They are terrified of folding out the table and just claiming the Blinds.
...At 10BB, I'm just shipping and hoping for one call.
...Any deeper than that, I open and hope to extract value post-flop.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#21Hey, John. Have put my thoughts in the Coll/NFL threads. So yes, feel like I've done my preparation, 1-0 ATS start on Nevada.

My absolute favorite hand is Q-K suited, that hand in particular has paid me off handsomely several times in the past.
Q-K suited you have an open-ended Broadway draw, flush draws, royal flush draws...
Yes, you have a Broadway draw with A-K but it's not an up and down straight draw like Q-KComment -

1) I could talk Poker for hours. It's a great game for combinations. It's even better for character assessment.
2) Ask the regs that used to play Poker on here. I was very much a novice early on. I took my lumps and got to the point that I was a pretty good tournament player.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#24Hey, John. I play some on Ignition. Check your state accessibility.
Lately I've been playing more live. Per my comments above, it's a great game for character assessment:
1) The most-prepared player should win over time.
2) In the short-term, there's a lot more luck than skill.
3) Beyond a solid base of play, one needs to understand what the OTHER GUY is doing.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
