    Great pic.

It looks like it was taken from right about where the Mirage stands now.

I think the only buildings still standing from when that pic was taken are Circus Circus, the Sahara and parts of downtown way off in the distance.

It's cool to see these old photos. Be neat to see a time lapse type collage from generally the same angle to see how much it has changed over the decades

I think that pic may be quite a few years before they build the Mirage.

I was working driving a cab while it was being built.

I remember after it was built you kind of had to use a taxi driver trick to drive through
the Sands, where the Venetian is today, to avoid the huge crowds when it opened and
that damn volcano going off every 15 minutes

Bottom line is, the Mirage was responsible for the huge growth of the Strip and oddly led
to the downfall of Steve Wynn years later.

I personally took this one seven years ago.

                  edit, file too large.

The old DI. Great pic. I remember when country bumpkins from Iowa, FH and I, were staying across the street at the Frontier.

We went there first as they had a glass see thru elevator and they filmed the show "Vegas" there. 1981.

Fuk ME. YOu know you are old when you have outlived half of that cast..or they died before my age 65

FH and I have outlived Tony Curtis...and most everyone else on that show.

I am sure some people will scoff but one of my fave places to stay is the old Plaza Hotel. I like the laid back staff and "old Vegas cool" style and atmosphere. And I like Downtown and Freemont street and being able to walk between half a dozen casinos easily and safely.

For all the years I lived in Vegas I think I only went in there once.

I believe the casino is now mostly if not completely smoke free.

Was there a month ago. Great spot. Oscars is a solid restaurant too. Drinks were strong and cheap throughout the Plaza.

The bar a great place to meetup for happy hour if going downtown. Location, atmosphere, view, and like you said, the drinks sure are generous pours.

Vintage pics are the Best.I miss the Hacienda Hotel big time and not on strip but losing my cheap fun Fiesta Henderson just really ended it. Loved the Marina. Ate my first buffet at the Marina when i was 14.Went for breakfast my dad said its all you can eat and of course i ate like 10 sausages and pound of bacon got so sick well you know what happened had to lose a whole day sleeping it off in the room. Miss those days, Dunes, Marina, Hacienda El Rancho, Stardust.

It’s a great spot. My dad and I sat there guzzling booze and he says to me: they pour these drinks like the 70’s in Vegas.
