    Yet another brutal umpire call.
Thank God I didn't have cash money on this game.

If they can superimpose the strike zone for the entire world to see, why can't they defer to it?

I get that there's a human element to the game that's pure and traditional, but some errors are too egregious to ignore.

        Can they challenge balls/strikes?

          How about check swings?

There is nothing in the rule book whatsoever regarding check swings.

Nothing salts the game more than an umpire with "HIS" strike zone.

            Those weren't even close.

Both low. And while consistent, in this case consistently terrible.

When the ABS is implemented, which will be soon, challenges will be available for balls and strikes; I saw it a bunch of times at the AAA park in Las Vegas, it works great.

Same here in the Atlantic League which is an Indie League in the northeast.
The Atlantic league skill level is a cross between AA and AAA ball, we see many ex MLB players go for a second chance, and unsigned kids out of college, and yeah, it works great.

Here's what the homer Mets broadcasters said.

The ump in todays game had some brutal calls as well. I mean he randomly was calling 2 balls off of the top, bottom, and sides.

Manager should have covered up home plate with dirt like Earl Weaver used to do. Lol.

The tools of ignoance my coach used to say.

I caught and was left handed for 2-3 years. Until baseball got real.

Got a left handed catchers mitt for Christmas when I was about 11. Loved it.

If I couldn't pitch that day, I caught. Loved the Action.

Ironically it was the same umpire almost 7 years earlier to the day who was a hero in the same city of Pittsburgh.

                                  I was a catcher/DH myself.

Our HS shortstop threw and hit left.
He was so good he was All-County, as a left-handed shortstop.

I've been slamming the umpires all season so turnabout is fair play.

Lance Barrett (HPU) in this BOS-NYY game just called strike three on Hamilton on a difficult pitch for an umpire to judge.
At the knees when it crossed the plate, and it was the absolute correct call.
