RIP- was lucky enough to exchange a couple emails with Dave over the last month. He was funny, spirited and grateful to the end.
Pretty cool. Yes, that stuck out to me. A guy couldn't possibly exit more graciously.

Very true, str. The poker parallel might be Mike Sexton. Sexton was universally respected.
Nice posts, edawg and zbar. Nice tributes.
One thing sticks out to me re: Cokin. He could speak so fluidly about teams/players and how it might impact the game from a betting perspective.

I had a major war of words with Dave a little over 20 years ago (on the covers.com forum), because I believed touts were simply betting with other people's money. We kissed & made up & in his case, I have to admit I was wrong. He put a lot of time in analyzing game match-ups & produced more winners than losers for his clients. I also found him to be extremely personable once I got to know him better. I am very sad of hearing he passed away. He will be missed. RIP!

Hey, Juggler. Yes, Dave was a forum presence back then...and used his real name.
People have referenced his gift for gab. I know that he liked to shoot the bull on the forums. He could take criticism, too. He just didn't like the nonsensical trolling rebuttals.

Smokin Dave Cokin...
I would not be surprised if the smoking did him in.
He always looked like he was on his last days whenever I saw him around town.
That crew was entertaining with Feist, Cokin, Larry Ness etc.
I was a sucker who drank the koolaid and followed Feist for awhile.
Lost every game one weekend. Lesson learned the hardway.

Good one, ky. When Feist released his Customer Appreciation Week plays...you knew that he must have gone 0-12 last week.

Yeah I caved once for Feist’s picks on Thanksgiving week. Think it was $49 for the few days of picks. Was all a wash but the sales guy on the phone kept mentioning how well some of the winners did. Then wanted $1000 or something for the rest of the season. Didn’t go for that lol.

I think most of us had a similar experience. I know that I did.
Was a pretty funny exchange. Live and learn.

Ahh, the old "Proline" days! Scotty, Root, Feist, McGrew, and Cokin. Dave always acted like the voice of reason with his relaxed delivery - Wasn't trying to "shill" anyone - Seemed like a decent guy, definitely respected in the biz. RIP DC

I actually met Glenn McGrew. Ran into him at the Gamblers Book Store. Feist's Chief Analyst or whatever the title was (LOL).

I know it's been some time now. Just speaking personally, it's strange to think that Cokin's gone. He spoke intelligently on a broad spectrum of sports for so long.
Feist is still going. Might be some truth that Feist did a better job of taking care of himself. Feist kept himself in good shape and built his business to churn out good profits.

All these old times on that show remind my of Gary Austin.
I remember his book on the strip, where the Palazzo and Venetian stand.
He said his book was robbed and had to close.
A little Google and it turns out he is still around.

Can't wait to see what kind of tributes are posted here after Austin dies; or Feist, Sevransky, Feiner, etc. It should be interesting.

Well when you kick the bucket, there'll be two people attending the memorial... the funeral director and your bookie.

I don't deal with bookies, they're scum like touts. Earth to fool: having numerous people at your funeral won't bring you back.

None of your replies make any sense. Notice how you're the only tone deaf asshole in this entire thread kicking dirt over a dead man's grave, a man who has never wronged you in your sad, pathetic life. You're so certain of your own inner bias, which is really gross cognitive dissonance, that you hold fast to your miserable opinion, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Who'd wanna be friends with that?

No, actually you're the opposite of a realist. You live inside your own delusions.
You're more than welcome to tell everyone in here why they're wrong about Dave Cokin, but you won't, because you can't.
