Oh man, one of the coolest actors around. Able to star in drama to horror films. Will be missed greatly.

Many great roles. Two stick out to me:

                1) 1980: Ordinary People
...This is a fantastic movie. It's a great movie, because it's all based on the acting. No explosions, just actors in realistic portrayals.
...Donald plays Timothy Hutton's father. There's a great tragedy as the boy's brother drowns in a boating accident.
...Donald is the sane one. Mary Tyler Moore has an impossible role as the mother who preferred the son who drowned.
...If you want to see a great movie that's 100% real, watch Ordinary People. Hutton won the Academy Award.

                2) 1991: JFK
...Another great movie. This one's trickier because you have to interweave between fact and conspiracy theory.
...Donald is the insider who lays out the truth to the lawyer (Kevin Costner).
...The presentation of facts is believable. It's a movie that makes you think twice. For that reason alone, it's a great movie.

One of his smaller parts is one of this most memorable! The psych professor Jennings in "Animal House" - shacking up with Karen Allen. Classic performance as he stepped out of his box!

When you get in your 50's you begin to see all the movie stars you grew up watching begin to die off. Happens with every generation. Arnold, Stallone, Jack Nickleson , Al Pacino, Dinero, Mel Gibson, etc.. all goners soon.

All the 70's musicians will start keeling over also.

                              Exactly.

Keifer was great as Jack Bauer and so great in everything else.
Donald has a hall of fame resume.

I'm sure Keifer would agree his daddy was one of the best.

I was so sad to hear this. He was a fantastic actor and then gave us his son. He made such a huge contribution to film.

88 years old is a pretty good long life. Can't live forever. If you make it that long you did something right.
