The first thing I thought of when I saw this is what did he do. So he is leaving Kentucky for Arkansas. I don't care what he says the reason is he did something. My guess is he learned that the NCAA is closing in on his recruiting violations, like every other school he has been at, and is getting out of town before the shit hits the fan.

Yep, Cal has always been squirrely as the day is long.
          You nailed it Unde.

Cal is on my very short list of head coaches I can't stomach.

But I get the feeling that Cal really doesn't really gives a rats ass what some dopey freelance writer in Connecticut thinks of him.

Just in case you're scoring at home (and I know you are) McDermott and Pitino are on my short list as well.

Just my opinion: *I don't blame him.

The last game vs Oakland left a lot of doubt in the air. I thought he might get canned.

The KY fan base was now tilted against him. Think about some of the teams he's lost to:
            *Robert Morris
            *St Peter's
            *Oakland

...How many posters can name the State where those three teams reside?
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

St. Peter's, come on dude, I was born in Bayonne NJ, my dad worked in Bayonne his whole career.
Bayonne is a stone's throw from JC, right on the border.

My dopey brother got his marketing degree from St. Peter's, I'm surrounded by Jesuits back home and here at Casa de Nasher as well.

Would be pretty cool if he could bring the Hogs back to prominence:

                    1) The guy (Calipari) does get recruits. Does Sidney Moncrief have any young nephews?

                    2) He (Calipari) does produce pros. That said, (in general) I'd say that the KY players are some of the worst pros and great guys to bet against.

He is certainly passed his prime. Maybe he secretly hates his wife & he's not ready to be around her so much yet. So he is just hanging on for dear life as a coach.

I don't think he had recruiting violation issues because there aren't too many anymore. You can funnel the $$ to the players now through NIL collectives. I always felt like the problem with his recent teams are that he gets all the top recruits that are one and done.

The problems with these one and done guys are they don't know how to play defense , and don't have the experience or are unwilling to play in a team structure. Maybe the biggest problem is these one and done guys are 18 and when they get to the tourney they are playing 22 and 23 year olds who are far superior and more experienced in the college game.

EZ, you hit on it. Jay Wright made a comment similar to yours.

In the game against Oakland, it was basically Young against Old. The Oakland players were more well-schooled.

Over the years, I've found the KY players to be some of the laziest around. They want to get drafted, and that's it.

Chucky, I don't know if I blame them for wanting to get drafted ASAP. If you stick around longer than a year, your weaknesses that they think are correctable haven't been fixed in multiple years and now you slide in the draft. Calapari said after the loss to Oakland he had to rethink things. I'm thinking he was referring to the one and done players. All coaches want to win. He probably will do very well at Arkansas with all that $$$ from the Waltons and Tyson.

Very fair comments. In Cal's defense, I think he knew exactly what he was. A facilitator for NBA prospects to show their talent.

If he wanted to stress Defense and Boxing-out, might not go over so well with the hi-end recruits. I have to say that I rarely see a KY player improve, and I regard so many of them to be run-of-the-mill NBA players.
