The most unique player in baseball history has joined one of the most storied franchises in the world -- for more money than anyone could have possibly imagined. Shohei Ohtani, the transcendent two-way talent who spent the past three years redefining what was possible at his sport's highest level, signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, announcing his decision on his Instagram page. "To all the fans and everyone involved in the baseball world, I apologize for taking so long to come to a decision," Ohtani wrote. "I have decided to choose the Dodgers as my next team."

Did the Dodgers just become the odds on favorite to win it all now?
700 million and almost a billionaire overnight. Damn why didn't I grow up playing baseball? I had a really good throwing arm and could play stick ball with the best of them as a kid squirt growing up!

Someone saw a private plane in LA that was flying to Toronto and assumed it was Ohtani, turns out it was one of the shark tank clowns.

Dodgers are into the habit of way overspending for players. this is getting really ridiculous. even this would make George Steinbrenner blush! $700 million for one player? ...talk about selling your soul to the devil! Obviously, they plan on using Ohtani as a full-time pitcher but will they have him DH as well? only a matter of time before he gets injured again because of wear and tear and being overused. To put this into proper perspective here are the 2023 MLB team salaries:
MLB team playrolls in 2023
N.Y. Mets, $353,546,854
N.Y. Yankees, $276,999,872
San Diego, $248,995,932
Philadelphia, $243,009,439
L.A. Dodgers, $222,717,834
L.A. Angels, $212,228,096
Toronto, $ 209,938,983
Atlanta, $203,077,500
Texas, $195,869,490

San Francisco, $187,932,500
Chicago Cubs, $184,219,250

Great list, now add their records. They will regret this deal but the money is so insane it’s a drop in the bucket. Dodgers and Yankees can spend spend spend on guys that implode in the postseason or don’t make it all.

Imagine thinking a SINGLE private plane from LA to Toronto is this guy?! Probably dozens daily. Toronto is a massive international city where massive business is done… one of my favorite places. Could have been anyone and some media moron assumes it’s this guy. LOL.

I'm a Billy Bean student.
Bean is very big on dividing team wins into total payroll to come up with his dollars spent for win metric.

Love it. Here’s what’s not being said…. Most these teams don’t care if they win or lose anyway. They rake in the money regardless.

The Dodgers probably couldn't care less if they win. Ohtani will return 2 billion to the team easy over the life of the contract in revenue and team valuation.

Actually the records mean nothing as the league is there to make profit for owners. The fans have no say. So if the teams with the high payrolls make money then is all good. So if a team with a 60 million payroll did a 5 million profit in a year and the team with 300 million payroll did a 20 million profit (these are made up numbers so don't research) then who did the best for the owner? The teams are money making machines. This is why no owner in all major sports has ever lost money in buying a team when they sold it.

And 80 percent of the fans would still leave after the sixth inning of all home games.

One of the worst owners in sports history. Too stupid to trade Ohtani and get something for him. Instead, just let him walk.

To be fair, getting out of Dodger Stadium parking is the absolute worst. It's like 2 hours if you leave at the end of the game. I think Frank McCourt still owns the parking lots.

Yeah but for that to happen he needs to play at least constantly. Is it a guarntee his body is handling + recovering after a 2nd Tommy John surgery?

What a crazy contract. 680 million deferred until 21034-2043. So if he moves back to Japan does he not have to pay US income tax/ Clearly a ploy to avoid CA income tax.
