Causal fan, if that, but I think it's about car engine, tires, track strategy, driver and some luck will win it. Car wrecks is not that huge in Indy.

Fuel economy and tire wear are two big factors.

That's why they dont want to lead every lap, to save gas.

The Maclarens look like they are best in both categories so far to me. (Roseqvist/Oward/Rossi/Kanaan)

Good luck with those wagers, personally I wouldn't even know where to begin handicapping an auto race.
