#5New rules designed to speed up play and increase batting average, with an emphasis on increasing singles, will be at play here.
Last year's league batting average was .243
That's the lowest it's been since going .237 in 1968. 2021 was .244 and 2020 was .245.
Last year there just over 5.3 singles per team a game, that's one of the lowest I've seen. But 2021 and 2020 were both lower than 2023.
They want to bring that up a notch and hope the shift rule will accomplish that.Comment -

#6Here are the lowest 13 years of singles per team per game leaguewide in the mlb.
They are all recent. It's been harder and harder to get singles...
The next one on the list is 1968, when the league wide batting avg was just .237, where there were 5.9 singles per game.1B/gm 2020 5.06 2021 5.15 2022 5.33 2019 5.34 2018 5.42 2017 5.54 2016 5.67 2012 5.74 2015 5.77 2011 5.85 2013 5.85 2014 5.86 2010 5.88 Comment -

#9Will these new rules (bigger bases, pitch clock, etc.) increase runs? If so, are the books already adjusting the over/under?Comment -
