#13It's a gambling term that's been around for a while. I'll give you two examples:
1) The "Scandies" are looking for value. Traditional middle would be trying to set up a "landing spot" number that would trigger TWO WINNERS. And we'd like to take the risk at a cheap price.
Think about a key number like NFL value of "3". If a bettor can go to post with +3.5 (-110) and -2.5 (-110). That is surely a winning portfolio play over time.
So, a guy from Gdansk seeks out a "Polish middle." Maybe he's not too sharp. He shops the lines and winds up with:
-3.5 (-110) and +2.5 (-110). Game lands 3, he loses both sides.
2) Sometimes, guys will think about the Polish middle on halftimes, too.
On the halftime, the term "Polish middle" has less application IMHO. But I'll give an example:
*If you are holding a -2.5 ticket for the full game and team is down by 19 at halftime, the equity in that ticket has less value than a tissue to blow your nose.
Some might say that a chance to get out of Dodge would be to play the OTHER side at half. Let's say the other side is +5 on the 2nd half.
That's one hell of a window where you can lose BOTH sides. Hence, the "Polish middle."Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#14You see Nate the polish are notoriously stupid. I mean you’d never believe how many of them it takes to screw in a lightbulbComment -

#16I would say that a polish middle is rarely a good idea. Just take the L and move on in most cases. I don't always take my own advice though.Comment -

#18I know that's the running joke.
My counter is always that Copenicus was born in Poland and studied in Poland:
