Alot. Defense coordinator is a dope. Then again I don't think sirianni is all that. Great QB play by hurts made him look smart. Reid is an offensive genius. He finally got a great QB to execute his plans.

Thanks for the reply, Laker. Wanted to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

It's one of those games that make you think. I seriously would have done everything short of rolling out a red-carpet encouraging Mahomes to run.

Obviously, it was a close game. Just makes me think that preparation/execution is what wins a game like that.

I'm surprised they didn't blitz on that last drive. They were going to score, why not take a shot at pinning them back on the other side of the 50? If they hit on a long score then at least you get the ball back with some time on the clock. You're never going to stop Mahomes without pressuring him.

Good insight, klemo. Yes, I agree.

To my point above, it's not so much about running YOUR defense. It's about taking Mahomes out of HIS comfort zone. He looked as loose as can be.

I'm a big believer that that the best teams figure out the L4 minutes of each half. Kicking a FG on the last play is a double-whammy. You score and eliminate the opponent's chance to score.

We analyze games afterwards and the common denominator is always “why didn’t they do this or that?” These are guys that have been in football and seen everything but yet we still chalk it up to stupidity. Why?
At what point does it become beyond just “dumb coaching”
Like if we had a mathematician from MIT take a test in algebra vs an 8th grade student and get a worse score we would say that’s impossible.
But yet on the couch we can see the right decisions that need to be made while experts in the field continue to make dumb decisions, and our only reasoning is “they are dumb”
It baffles me how unopen we are about the possibility of corruptness in the beloved nfl game.

I told Lakerboy on 11/20 Mahomes was the nfls golden child and that everyone else was playing for second place because he would be crowned his second title. Why did I know that? I’m not an analytics guy, I’m not a stats guy, I’m not even a lines guy. All I do is open myself up to the possibility that these sports games have bigger motives than just letting athletes line up fair and square from each other each week.
Fair games don’t build attention, don’t build fan support, don’t build the adrenaline that fans get, don’t help books win which in exchange draws more fans to bet and chase the dream, etc, etc, etc

the irony is bradberry should have not held Juju. play tough defense but if he gets open he gets open. if he is open & mahomes completes the pass then the eagles get the ball back with timeouts down 7. they can try and tie or even go for the win. i would go for the 2 pt conversion and the win cause you don't want OT since your defense can't stop the chiefs.

the eagles defense made no adjustments. kelce gets open in the first half with 3 guys standing around him. then the 2 tds with misdirection cause the eagles never look at the WR to see he is going the opposite way. their defense looked so medicore.

Exactly, Polo. Your logic is spot-on:

*WORST outcome was NOT a td pass. Like you say, that might set up Hurts for a TD and even a 2pt try to win.
*WORST outcome was what he did, a penalty that killed the game off.

I relate it to the Soccer defender contesting in the box. Make the attacker make a play. Don't gift-wrap it by committing hand-ball in the box.

Johnny, having studied all these Super Bowls (see the thread), I can say these games fall into one of three categories:
1) Blowouts. Games where the talent/execution edge was too large to overcome.
2) Games where Team A makes too many mistakes. Team B can't help but win.
3) Close games where coaching preparation (and in-game adjustments) make the difference.

This game clearly falls into category 3. I now see that BOTH Eagle Coordinators were seeking out jobs during Super Bowl week. Ridiculous, their lack of preparation showed.
