My buddy was a lacrosse goalie on Long Island and he died making a routine save off the chest protector. The ball hit his heart at the exact wrong time (millisecond) and he died on the field. If they had a defibrillator they probably would’ve been able to save his life. After that tragedy, every high school on Long Island had a defib the next year. It could’ve been this.
Will Hamlin b ok ???

#40Originally posted by coop-dogI played goalie in hockey for 15 years and took about 1 million pucks off chest ,never had this problem and never saw a goalie in any league nhl or what ever have this problem ever in my life and that would be alot of chest shots
youve never hit a 9 team parlay like I did tonight either probably. I’ve played hockey since I could barely walk and still play competitively 35 years later. This is like the bad luck powerball for goalies bro. Ofcourse neither of us have seen it. Hockey goalie pads are also like pillows compared to a cardboard vest when it comes to protection. Being a lacrosse goalie blows. Million bruise on your arms and legs from 90mph shots to unpadded areas. Hockey goalies have like couch cushions in all the vulnerable spots lolComment -

#48Originally posted by coop-dogDr. Peter McCullough just wrote me (7:54pm):
“I watched the play live both as a fan and a cardiologist and I saw blunt neck and chest trauma, a brief recovery after the tackle and then a classic cardiac arrest. I have communicated to one of the most experienced trainers in the world and we agree that it was a cardiac arrest in the setting of a big surge of adrenalin. If Damar Hamlin indeed took one of the COVID-19 vaccines, then subclinical vaccine-induced myocarditis must be considered in the differential diagnosis. We have been told he was successfully defibrillated on the field and has been intubated and is not spontaneously breathing which is consistent with anoxic encephalopathy. The nation prays for his complete recovery.”

#53I was a catcher for 14 years, took so many shots to the head on collisions at home plate I care to remember.
Same with foul tips to the throat, I've been hit in the head with bats... all in all I've been sent to to the ER about half a dozen times, concussed twice.
Thank God I've survived every hit, but all it takes is one hit, and it doesn't even have to be a severe hit, just one in the wrong spot.Comment -

#56Hard to know for sure, but saying "he's fighting" doesn't really sound that good.
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/01/03/damar-hamlin-family-spokesperson-says-hes-fighting/Few details are available regarding the status of Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who remains sedated and in critical condition after suffering cardiac arrest on Monday night.Comment -

#57it all comes down to one main thing: how long did his brain go without oxygen. the only way the brain gets oxygen is through blood flow and that comes from the heart beating.
every second of the brain getting deprived oxygen, is a golden second.
it can take away his most basic human functions.
it is so sad.Comment -

it was not just hitting the "wrong spot" that happened to the kid last night, it was the timing of it on his left chest as his heart was just about to beat and it threw off his heart's electrical circuit.Comment -

#61Damar's quality of life is almost squarely dependent right now on how many seconds he went without oxygen.
the only way to get oxygen to the brain is through the heart beating and the blood flowing so the CPR administered to him
within 10 seconds of him collapsing is going to be key.
i am pretty certain he will survive but if his brain was deprived of oxygen for too long, he will have lost key brain functionality
and may not have a normal life.
there are too many unknowns right now.Comment -
