The point to my statement really comes down to this though. It’s annoying to hear “oh all the liberal cities have rampant crime and all the Republican cities are just these majestic fields of beauty with bunnies and rainbows”. Crime is up overall across the US, this isn’t a one party problem this is an everyone problem.
You have people that have easy access to weapons, don’t have the ability to handle their stress or mental problems, you have people that live a life of criminal activity because they don’t know any better or have zero opportunities and you have a divided society that is constantly fighting with each other over what their favorite news outlet tells them to and you’ll have more crime. Not rocket science.

I do like most of Joe Biden's policies on health care, I just would like to see more of an effort on mental health care.
That's the problem that lead to crime.
Gun control will not stop the mentally ill, mental health treatment might.

Almost all of the criminal offenders have mental health issues, we need mental health professionals working with the law and order professionals, there's a disconnect there.

I understood what you are saying but I’ll go one further. I don’t think mental health professionals and law enforcement need to work together because I would argue it’s too late at that point.
If you are going to help people in their ability to cope with their stress or help with their mental health issues to prevent problems like this you have two options
1. Make that a part of health insurance plans at the same level you make a free physical exam. A lot of white collar jobs have gotten good at offering 3-5 free visits with a professional but I would say that still leaves out a chunk of the population. Why not make an annual evaluation a fully covered service?
2. Increase social programs, places people can go to deal with the stress, programs to help alleviate that, etc

Both these programs cost money and we still are a reactionary society rather than a proactive society
If these ideas were pitched we are going to have political fights and republicans who are not a fan of social programs or making health care better are going to spin this and say that the programs will cause people not to be able to afford insurance.
The reason our society is at this point always comes down to politics. If you can’t get regular people to agree and unite you’ll never get politicians to feel the pressure to make changes
