#76Athletes are just like society. I'm sure some don't give a shit but I'd bet much more athletes are registered and actually vote than society. Student athletes are much more organized and active than most. They are much more aware than most. I know for a fact that several college teams in several sports have 100% voter registration. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/stud...-register-voteOriginally posted by thetrinityI know some of them care more than others about voting/activism. The NBA is a players league. The players are out in front and are the faces of the league. It's a star driven league and the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor incidents impacted the players. The players said "WE ARE NOT GOING TO PLAY". They actually told the league, they were not playing another basketball game. They took to social media and was serious in what they were saying. The league had to listen. You say wearing a shirt and locking arms means nothing. You are so short sighted. It takes guts, courage to stand up for what you believe in. Even more so when you are willing to stop playing the game you love. Bill Russell meant what he said and you are pissing on his grave to say it does not matter. Many people gave their lives so that you could vote. For you to say it does not matter is an affront to their sacrifice.Comment

 Election Day: Frequently Asked Questions

Election Day is the day legally established to select public officials in the United States. General elections for federal offices—President, Vice President, and U.S. Congress—are held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years. Citizens vote for President and Vice President every four years, Representatives every two years, and Senators every six years; this excludes special elections to fill unexpired terms. State and local elections are often but not always held on the same day as federal elections.Comment

 #79Kobe Bryant

 https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2673464-kobe-bryant-on-election-we-dont-have-to-guess-what-side-of-the-fence-im-on

LOS ANGELES — On Tuesday, former Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant urged America's young adults to get out and vote in next week's national election.

"It's extremely important," Bryant said. "The discussion that [I] always have centers around, 'How do you educate the youth about the issues so that they have a clear perspective of what they're voting on?'"

 "That's how you influence change."

In December 2014, Bryant made a political statement in support of Eric Garner, who died after being placed in a chokehold by a New York police officer. He and his Lakers teammates wore black-and-white T-shirts that read "I Can't Breathe" during pregame warm-ups.

"I think it would be a serious disservice to limit this to a race issue. It's a justice issue," Bryant told the Los Angeles Times in December 2014.

Several NBA stars have recently used their platforms to help influence voters.

Bryant stressed technology and education as the cornerstones.

"We have a democratic system. You can vote and choose what you want to support and what you don't want to support, but having the knowledge of understanding what you're voting for is the most important thing," Bryant said. "The platforms that we have available in social media can make the process a very seamless one. But it's about organizing that information in a way that's easily digestible."Comment

NBPA ANNOUNCES 90 PERCENT OF ELIGIBLE PLAYERS REGISTERED TO VOTE
Fifteen teams' rosters are fully registered

Heading into the NBA restart, amid the country’s largest-scale social justice movement in decades, the National Basketball Players Association fought hard to ensure they could leverage their platform to amplify and advance efforts to work toward racial justice.
That included education and activism, and ultimately registering more than 90% — and climbing — of eligible American voters in their membership.

Interviewed on the ABC broadcast during Game 3 of The Finals, NBPA President Chris Paul confirmed the climbing number.
“I’m so proud of our guys,” said the Thunder guard. “Fifteen teams are 100% registered. The bubble has been an unbelievable blessing. Our players continue to do the work, and we’re grateful and we’ll keep working.”Comment

#83I think I've voted by mail once, maybe twice in my life. It was a pain because of the verification. Plus you then have to figure out who the hell you're voting for, especially the local seats. It is not easier and actually more of a pain, versus just walking up and voting. This year in Harris country, there's probably at least 90 choices with different candidates and issues to vote on and you must select each one before you can move to the next. There is no option to bypass or vote by a particular party. I find it much easier voting in person. But that's in my community. If I was living in Atlanta Ga, Fulton or Dekalb county? I'd probably early vote because I have friends who still tell me the horror stories waiting in long lines.Originally posted by lakerboyYou also have the option to vote early. Why wait in line? #91I'm not sure what you're getting at? It sounds like you're implying that someone would want to cheat? There's a lot of checks and balances in our elections. There is no widespread cheating in our elections, despite the bullshit Trump spewed because he got his ass kicked. If you want to vote by mail, it is much more involved than just walking into a polling place, showing your ID and voting as a registered voter. Here are the steps in Texas. You tell me which would you prefer....?Originally posted by lakerboyWhat I got from your response here is the verification part. Interesting.

 Voting by Mail
To vote by mail, you must provide ONE of the following numbers on your ballot by mail (ABBM) and your mail ballot carrier envelope:

 - Texas Driver’s License, Texas Personal Identification Number or Election Identification Certificate Number issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (NOT your voter registration VUID number); OR the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.

If you have not been issued a Texas Driver’s License, Texas Personal Identification Number, Texas Election Identification Certificate Number or a Social Security Number, you must indicate so by checking the appropriate box on the ABBM or carrier envelope.

*For voters aged 18–69 years, photo ID can be expired for up to four years. For voters aged 70 and older, photo ID can be expired for any length of time if otherwise valid.
†The Texas Election ID Certificate is a free photo ID issued by DPS for voting purposes. The number on this ID is NOT your Voter Unique Identifier (VUID) on the voter registration card you receive in the mail. Your VUID is NOT required information on either your ABBM or mail ballot carrier envelope.

Voting by mail in Texas has been available to elderly voters and voters with physical disabilities for decades. Remember, however, that many of the legal safeguards designed to protect voters and their ballots are impossible to enforce in the privacy of the voter’s home. Here are a few tips that may prove helpful:
 - Call your local or county office holding the election and request that an application to vote by mail be sent to you, or download the application here (PDF).
- To vote by mail, you must provide ONE of the following numbers on your ABBM: (1) Texas Driver’s License, Texas Personal Identification Number or Election Identification Certificate Number issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (NOT your voter registration VUID number); OR (2) If you have not been issued one of the numbers above, the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. If you have not been issued a Texas Driver’s License, Texas Personal Identification Number or Texas Election Identification Certificate Number or a Social Security Number, you must indicate so by checking the appropriate box on the ABBM.
- If you need help filling out the form or mailing it, ask someone you trust to help you. Your helper’s name and address must be written next to your signature and they must sign the application.
- Address your application to the Early Voting Clerk. Applications mailed to an address other than the Early Voting Clerk may be rejected.
- Send your application for a ballot by mail as early as 60 days before an election. This will give you plenty of time to receive your ballot, mark it, and mail it back to the Early Voting Clerk. All applications to vote by mail must be received by the early voting clerk not later than the 11th day before election day by the close of regular business or 12 noon, whichever is later. Applications to vote by mail must be submitted in person or by mail, email, common or contract carrier, or fax (if a fax machine is available in the office of the early voting clerk).
- If you are voting by mail because you are disabled or are 65 years of age or older, you may use a single application to request ballots by mail for all county elections in the calendar year. While you can submit this “annual” application anytime during the calendar year, it must be received at least 11 days before the first election in which you seek to request a ballot by mail.
- Generally, a ballot must be mailed to the address where you are registered to vote. However, if you are 65 or older or have a physical disability, you may have your ballot sent to a hospital, nursing home or long-term care facility, retirement center, or relative, but you must check the blank on the form indicating which address you are providing. If your reason for voting by mail is absence from the county, the ballot must be mailed to an address outside the county.
- If you need help reading, marking, or mailing the actual ballot, ask a trusted relative or friend for help. It’s not uncommon for someone from a political organization to offer to help with your ballot soon after you’ve received it. We recommend you decline this kind of help for several reasons. If you allow your ballot to be mailed by someone you don’t know, it might not be mailed at all. If it’s delivered to the elections office by a common or contract carrier from the address of a candidate or a campaign’s headquarters, your ballot will be rejected.
- Finally, if someone helps you with your mail ballot, you must put your helper’s name and address on the carrier envelope, which is the one used to return your ballot to the early voting clerk. Your helper must also sign the carrier envelope.

#94Verification is probably not the right word. Let's say the process. To simplify. You have to request a mail in ballot by FIRST mailing the request to a specific address. It has to be within a certain time frame. It takes time to mail a letter, it cost money to buy a stamp. Then they mail you a ballot that you have to complete. It is often not very straight forward, so now you're trying to decipher is prop 52 going to cost you more money or is it going to save you more money. Is prop 73 going end up closing your neighborhood school or not. So you put the ballot on the kitchen table where eventually you get back to filling it out only to find out it's past the deadline to get another envelope, stamp, and take it to the post office to be mailed.Originally posted by lakerboyWhat I got from your response here is the verification part. MEDIA, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man who illegally voted for Donald Trump on behalf of his long-dead mother in last year’s presidential election was sentenced Friday to five years of probation.
Bruce Bartman, 70, of Marple, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of perjury and one count of unlawful voting. Besides his probation term, he will not be allowed to vote in an election for four years and is no longer eligible to serve on a jury.
Bartman apologized for his actions, telling the judge “I was isolated last year in lockdown. I listened to too much propaganda and made a stupid mistake.”
Bartman voted in place of his dead mother, authorities have said, and he also registered his mother-in-law, who died in 2019, to vote but did not obtain an absentee ballot for her.
Prosecutors have said Bartman used the driver’s license number for his mother, who died more than a decade ago, to register her to vote, obtain a mail-in ballot, return that ballot and fraudulently vote in her name.Comment

#96I'm thinking your country needs to figure things out not tell people to vote. You see no other western nation pushes people to vote. We had elections here last year and this year and voter turnout was very low because people are just sick of politicians they are all pretty much the same either side. One side spends money they don't have and the other side doesn't want to spend any money or has to cut things because the other guys screwed up with overspending.Originally posted by Mac4LyfeVerification is probably not the right word. As for the NBA they are clearly pushing people to vote for the democratic party. I'm sure you know this but you don't think it's an issue. The reality is that it won't make much of a difference.

I'm hoping next year when the republican party controls the Senate and the house( which they will) I can still freely enter the USA when I meet those SS guards at the border.Comment

#97Dumb take. Yale university just recently had a voter drive for students. The school is predominantly white.Originally posted by TheMoneyShotThe NBA and NFL basically want "minorities" to vote. The sad truth is that you don't want minorities to vote. You don't care about them. Yet you mention racist. Fukking hypocrite. Why should you care who votes? Shouldn't you just care that they vote? I already know your answer.Comment

#99Stop it. Canada has voter drives all over the damn place. Just because you don't believe in voting, that's on you, not them. You sound proud that people are apathetic about voting. Fortunately, it's only a handful like you that feel that way. Here you go again backing a party in a country you don't even live in? You are more interested in our elections, while totally apathetic about your own. #101Trump and his cronies had hundreds of suits saying the same bullshit you're spewing. Guess what, when Republican judges asked them to show proof, they went back in their trailers. When some were facing perjury charges of their own, they quietly shut the fukk up. What DEM would risk going to jail for Joe Biden? Think man? A shit load of dumb fukks would go to jail for Trump and did. Fukking comedy hour. Woman avoids jail for voting dead mom’s ballot in Arizona
 By BOB CHRISTIEApril 30, 2022
PHOENIX (AP) — A judge in Phoenix on Friday sentenced a woman o two years of felony probation, fines and community service for voting her dead mother’s ballot in Arizona in the 2020 general election.
But the judge rejected a prosecutor’s request that she serve at least 30 days in jail because she lied to investigators and demanded that they hold those committing voter fraud accountable.
The case against Tracey Kay McKee, 64, is one of just a handful of voter fraud cases from Arizona’s 2020 election that have led to charges, despite widespread belief among many supporters of former President Donald Trump that there was widespread voter fraud that led to his loss in Arizona and other battleground states.
McKee, who was from Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale but now lives in California, sobbed as she apologized to Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Margaret LaBianca before the judge handed down her sentence. McKee said that she was grieving over the loss of her mother and had no intent to impact the outcome of the election.

“Your Honor, I would like to apologize,” McKee told LaBianca. “I don’t want to make the excuse for my behavior. What I did was wrong and I’m prepared to accept the consequences handed down by the court.”

Both McKee and her mother, Mary Arendt, were registered Republicans, although she was not asked if she voted for Trump. Arendt died on Oct. 5, 2020, two days before early ballots were mailed to voters.
Assistant Attorney General Todd Lawson played a tape of McKee being interviewed by an investigator with his office where she said there was rampant voter fraud and denied that she had signed and returned her mother’s ballot.
“The only way to prevent voter fraud is to physically go in and punch a ballot,” McKee told the investigator. “I mean, voter fraud is going to be prevalent as long as there’s mail-in voting, for sure. I mean, there’s no way to ensure a fair election.
“And I don’t believe that this was a fair election,” she continued. “I do believe there was a lot of voter fraud.”

I'm starting to think you have nothing at all in your cranium or you just listen to left wing crap all day long.

Where did I say I didn't believe in voting? I believe In choice to vote. The reason you like the push to vote is simple. You want democrats to win. You actually love pushing people to do this and that. Remember when you were calling people pussies for not taking an ineffective medical product? Push push push.

Most people are sick of politicians that's why they don't care to vote. Try to get that in your tiny head.

NBA knows certain minority communities are too lazy to get up and vote so they are taking the games off the tv to encourage them to vote but it won't make much of a difference. Season ticket holders are Republican in your neighborhood really? Why do you think that is. Come on be honest. Lol

I make my points very clear and concise and you come back with name calling etc that's what Dems do. You are not an independent. That's a convenient way of saying you are unbiased but you are a left wing leaning white guy who feels guilty about all the crap your ancient ancestors did.

#104TMS - have you ever worked at an election site? I'm thinking not. The system is very well organized and easily verifiable in many states. Maybe you should volunteer one year. That way you can at least help the illiterates and be on the lookout for the voter dumps.

Just to remind you. Republicans did well in the last election. The only guy that lost was Trump. More people voted for Biden in that last election to vote Trump out. I know several people, staunch Republicans that didn't even care about the other elections. They went in the polling location, held their nose, voted for Biden and walked out. You have no clue how many people hated the orange turd. Never Trumpers were in the thousands, especially here in Texas and NY. Those are Republicans mind you. Trump knew he was toast, so he made up a lie to save face. You know the truth. You can't handle the truth.Comment
