#72That is itself is racist.Originally posted by KVBI was responding specifically to the use of "problem" and where it seems to come from.
What did the NHL do?
All they did was run a self identifying study with not even all employees and are producing a statistic based on it.
That's what they did.
Now if Kim Davis wants to set some kind of hiring quota then I hope it comes with investments in black neighborhoods for ice hockey access. That way kids can play then become coaches and fathers with kids who play. That will create qualified candidates for sure. It will take more than a generation if they started now.
But somehow I don't see an ice rink and a hockey league popping up and getting poplular in south bama anytime soon.
I would abosolutely, however, not rule out that qualified black people were denied an NHL job because of their color.
It literally happens everywhere with just about everything, even if the incidents are not many, and there is more than enough legitimate data to back that up.
The NHL is just trying to see if that's what they are guilty of and we all know somewhere along the way somebody probably was. It's just the law of averages. But that's likely a minority...again in line with data.
Affirmative action is racist.
Stop talking about race is my point.Comment -

#73its getting more ridiculous.Originally posted by TheMoneyShotI came from a hockey family... and most of these answers are going around the true bread and butter of the REAL ANSWER.
1. Most black people simply can't skate (no coordination on ice.)
2. They also hate COLD WEATHER.
Yes, hockey is an expensive sport... but it's not the real reason. I'm not being racist... I'm simply being honest. Its hilarious that the NHL is leaning towards minorities. Bettman knows this... he's acting like he doesn't.... he doesn't want heat from this.
If the NHL tries to fix this... good luck... it's impossible.
Blacks can run fast. No studies as to why more Whites are running in the 100 meters at the Olympics.
the NBA hello?
Unreal how pussified some people have become.
I played hockey growing up in Canada. We would play at 8-Rinks at 11pm or even 12:30 am many times. Sometimes no goalies would show up (they play for free) but we just turned the nets around or we played posts. No one cared if anyone was Black. Well maybe someone did I guess, but I never noticed. We just went out to have fun and when you hear the Zamboni stop, you just wanna get out there and play. Those first few strides on a brand new sheet of ice. The sound of the blades carving into the ice. Man I miss it.Comment -

#74No, creating equal opportunity is not necessarily racist. Neither is Affirmative action.Originally posted by DwightShruteThat is itself is racist.
Affirmative action is racist.
Stop talking about race is my point.
I think you mean discriminatory. I think you are talking about discrimination, not racism.
I agree, many policies are discriminitory and many parts of the country have moved on from a race discussion, but many parts haven't.
Racism and discrimination exist and not talking about it won't help.
But creating investment for equal opportunity does not have to be racist or discriminatory. Sadly, it often becomes that, but don't mistake one race benefitting more from an Ice Rink than another simply because of the hood it's in.
That's not racism, that's not discriminatory.
But if you don't change the demographic you market to, you aren't changing anything for real.
Again, just optics if all they are worried about are the percentages of new hires.Comment -

If there's anyone who still talks about the world NOT BEING EQUAL... it's our great friend LeBron James. Hey LeBron... you are so amazing at basketball. And you throw things around how you'd like to play football at 37... I have an idea my man... let's see if you can skate bro?? Put a pair on... and I'll see you at the hockey rink guy.
It's unfortunate that this world is so divided. Hockey is just a simple sport that involves a lot of coordination on ice... quick decision making... and athleticism... some ethnic backgrounds could careless to learn how to skate.... has nothing to do with not allowing minorities in the NHL. They simply KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HOCKEY. It's not discriminating when they elected NOT TO LEARN IT or PLAY IT.
How the hell do you hire anyone who's a minority in the NHL in which their knowledge of the game isn't up to par? Maybe we could hire them as an Equipment Manager??? Perhaps to carry a puck bag??? I don't know????Comment -

#76I have to disagree with this. It might of been an issue 40-50 years ago. It's not even on the same level as today. The MEDIA makes it ALIVE. When you don't talk about something... it just fades. When you constantly talk about something... it's in front of you every day.Originally posted by KVBRacism and discrimination exist and not talking about it won't help.
When DWIGHT mentioned meet up with your friends at the hockey rink.... and play... did you ever have beef with someone?? We all did. Sh## I can think of every dude I battled with 20+ years ago. They were all white. What I'm trying to get at... who doesn't have an issue with someone? We're the same RACE and we had an issue with each other. I have never ran into any Mexican... black... whatever color they were and looked for trouble. In fact... out of every minority I ran into... we always got along. I also don't have any WHITE friends... who conclusively said... I HATE BLACK PEOPLE. So again... when you hear DIVIDE... that's the MEDIA saying that. For whatever reason.... they do it.
Regardless... it's natural for people to be competitive... and compete against each other... it could be WHITE VS WHITE.... BLACK VS BLACK. What I don't understand is.... someone always has to pull the RACIST CARD... and it's really annoying. This is what causes the tension.Comment -

#77The Left isn't talking about equality anymore have you noticed? Instead, its equity. Huge difference. I believe everyone has the right to stand at the starting line with anyone else who wished to compete. That's equality. I don't believe that everyone should finish at the same spot. That equity. Some people just work harder than others and should be rewarded for it. No participation trophies.Originally posted by KVBNo, creating equal opportunity is not necessarily racist. I hear that the average NFL salary is 2 mil a year now. Apparently almost half the starting QB's are Black now I heard. I never thought of it so I went through the teams and yup almost half are. I didn't care and I still don't care. If anything, I am surprised its not higher. Some people care about these kind of thing apparently.
The only people I have ever heard say that they hate Black people are Black people. And that's only a couple I can recall.
Yes Racism and discrimination do exist and anyone that is outright racist and discriminates won't survive long in this world no more. We have come a long way in that department. But it's gotten to the point where its ok to be racist against Whites now. There are places in universities where White people cannot go because they trigger Blacks. Companies will hire a less qualified person of color over a White person because of a quota they want to fill. There are Black only colleges. That is the definition of racism.
I am sure you seen this before, but in case you haven't or its been awhile, he says it perfectly in my humble opinion.

#84Blacks by and large are just not interested in hockey. That's just how it is. Not a surprise that they don't have many working in it, or playing it, nor should it be. The euro countries with the most interest have very tiny African population and Canada doesn't have a large one either. It's as much about demographics as it is about economics IMO.
