The penny will be obsolete by 2040, it is already in the works, that is the projected date for it to be gone.

Yes, plz elaborate. I could see it for the modern NICKEL. Not dime or quarter.
The nickel is HEAVY (relative to the 5-cent face value). $1.00 in nickels has a higher melt value:
Answer:
Total melt value is $1.15.
...b/c of the copper/nickel metal.

Coins suck, they weigh down your pockets.
I have a full BIG bucket of coins at home collecting dust that I accumulated over the years. It's heavy as shit and I'm unmotivated to find a coin counter some where and lug it in. Chase Bank where I bank doesn't have a counter. Even the banks don't want the coins these days.

Ballys is giving 20% on your change while that green machine at the grocery store is charging you 10-15%. Cashier said you don’t need to roll your change either.

Polo, pennies and nickels now have greater melt value than the face value. Want a tip? Look at your pennies for copper dates.
Spend the dimes/quarters over the counter. Govt is ripping you off w/ low-metal value.

I am collecting them now Illini. Great long term collector value. Especially pre 1982 where the copper
copper content was 95%.

Another great tip. Salud.
Only problem is that they start to take up a good bit of room. Could be more liquid in the near future.

Actually it is only 94.2% but the governement says 95% I am a penny guy and know this for a fact. It seems like not a big deal but it is a very big deal.

Plain stupid to pay with cash these days. You are being financially irresponsible if you do!
AAmerica Exxpress offers 5% back at major grocery chain stores which is crazy good kick backs that I take advantage of monthly.

My guess there I'd no doubt a couple billion dollars in counterfeit coins in circulation. They go completely undetected. Trying to inventory the current circulation is a daunting task.
