Really amazing that they haven't broken thru since. The ENG generation of Beckham/Owen/Gerrard/Lampard would seemingly have had to do better.

Some combination of bad luck at the inopportune time. A few come to mind:

2002 WC: ENG leads Braz late into 1h. Beckham fails to play ball out, Braz counter 1-1. GK Seaman had been playing w/ a bad back. Ronaldinho cross-chips free kick in on sloppy goal. 2-1.

2004 Euro: ENG lead FRA into 90th minute. Bad call on Heskey challenge, Zidane swings in FK. At dying moments, Gerrard back-pass picked off by Henry. James takes out Henry, PK which Zidane converts, 2-1.

2010 WC: ENG coming back vs Germ. 2-0 becomes 2-1, Eng coming again. Lampard chips goalie, balls goes over line, but not given. Germ wins 4-1.

Women's sports lol. Unwatchable garbage. Betting is the only reason. This is supposed to be the highest level. Can you believe they had 3 straight matches in the group stages with an own goal. Horrible. You're better off watching the men's 65+ senior amateurs kick a ball around.
