I got one a couple years ago, and went 50-50.

50% steady rate.............50% tied to S+P

I should have seen the red flag when my agent said: "The S+P has dipped only twice in the past 20 years."

The only reason to buy an annuity is if you are afraid you might outlive your assets. You will get a higher return by just buying the stocks and bonds.
