These guys pay A LOT of money for security at an event like this. How many times have you seen a guy go on stage and get at a performer. That is the first thing they are looking for.

If you're seated near the front, or at all really, it's pretty easy to get onstage at a comedy show. Security did respond swiftly though, not sure what you're expecting, are they supposed to see into the future? They're not Secret Service.
Disagree completely on the Will Smith debacle. Sure, it seemed surreal in the moment, but that's because real life incidents seldom occur under the unique circumstances of an Oscar Awards ceremony. I'll tell you what Pavy I go to the Hollywood Bowl every summer, mostly on classical nights. I dig the orchestra's big sounds and what not.
They do not check your groin for guns. You could have a big metal waist belt on holding up your pants and a gun tucked in and they may just wave the metal detector wand over that and brush it all off. It's easy to bring in a gun to the Hollywood Bowl. You can bring in a back pack that they check over also but your pack could have a hidden compartment and smuggle a gun in no problem.

Do you all remember FAN MAN that flew into the ring at the Bowe, Holyfield boxing match back in the early 90s? He got his ass kicked. Bowes entourage beat the living hell out of him. I remember seeing his manager punching the poor guy over and over again with a huge brick cell phone. That was some funny shit. Boxing used to have some the most bizarre shit.
