Chasing the wildland fire with my crew or my division,,, heads up engaged..... Now that my wife has passed away from brain cancer ... ( and I retired)head down ...wondering what I could have changed.......... take care of our kids ( adults on their own now)..... f me just f.... one day at a time.. yet because of the shortage and even though I have retired... I go out on wildland fires on a national team... because the team need help... yep to much info but you asked....

When I lived in nyc it was always head up but not making eye contact either. If someone was walking towards you, I always would just stare beyond / over them and not connect eyes on purpose. Forces them to all go around you like a rapid in a river. Helps if you are tall

When I moved to New England from NJ/NYC totally different.
In Boston people are much more friendly.

^I get eye contact a little under half the time but only from women here in Santa Monica California when walking bye, dudes no way. No one says hi or good morning either but I do some of the time and then they usually reply. I always have to be the first to say it though.

People are very shallow and stick to themselves in SO CAL. I guess that's typical in highly populated big cities. Still it's trash.

Head slightly tilted down and don't ever look away with someone looking at you. It is predator and prey. Try this experiment next time you go to a big party just watch people if they know and like somebody their head raises and exposes themselves if they don't know them yet you will see a slight downward head nod. Body language tells you everything.
