I disagree, sanctions were unprecedented and huge. They will hurt Russia for a very, very long time.
Sanctions were so huge that I disagreed with some, like swift and seizing reserves...those are dangerous precedents.
Now we will see a fractured World Order and dual banking systems.
Not to mention Europe moving away from Russian energy.
Western pain will be far more fleeting and temporary.

I think similar but one piece of evidence against that narrative has me less sure.
Take a look at the USD/RUB exchange rate.
After an initial plunge the Ruble has recovered to pre war levels.
Either financial markets are backing the Russian economy or the Kremlin is buying a boatload of overpriced currency to prop it up this long..Comment -

My thinking here is much longer term Opti.
Not short term.
Even if the West eases, there is long term, unavoidable damage.
Putin will have to go. Even China will be hesitant to viloate US sanctions.
Long term Russia is in very, very, very big trouble.
Yeah they got sales now, but when all contracts that have been already bought are full, you will see any post invasion oil sold very cheap. China and India will snatch it, but Russia is still in trouble. A fracture will be one of the only options.
