California is in bad shape for horse racing. 6 out of the 10 races Saturday have 6 or less horses running. Even the Sanita Derby has a 6 horse field.

Just saw this. I'd need a racing form. But I used to go to Longacres in Renton until they closed. Now Emerald Downs in Auburn since 1996. Its lame starting later every year, racing 2 days a week. Then 3 days for like 3 months. Less horses in each race. Less races run.
True story the track caught on to me. This was like 2014 I'd bet just 1 horse a day simulcast from Charles town. You know about the minimum $2.20 show payoff. I'd look for the 5 or 6 horse field and look for the 2/5 odds or less and study the form like crazy. I never did lose doing this. I started with only $2000. I'd let it ride every time there was a play. Only race Wed thru Sat
I won over $50,000 Emerald Downs banned me for a couple years than after that max bet is only $1000 to show on a race. I knew they were watching so I quit going.
So if I go to the track now I can only bet $1000 lolol. I'd still win $100
But only bet 1 a day. Bet more than that you will lose.

Track had to make up the difference. So its possible to put the track out of business! They were so afraid of me they had to limit my wagers and ban me from coming on the premises.

Yep have to agree. Short fields almost every race. I think they start like May 15th. Way later than usual. Yes I got hooked on the ponies also but in the 70's. I remember my dad taking me and making bets for me. I was only like 12. Born in 1966.
Good times when Trooper Seven and Belle of Rainier and Captain Condo (grey horse) would run. Those fun days are gone but the memories. Gary Baze won me a lot of loot I remember.
Another true story. When i was 18 I could make my own bets. My friend from highschool Steve his Mom knew the Bazes. Let me tell ya she would give us tips like 11 to 1 and would win easily. I would put $200 win $200 place on Hot n bold. I even remember the names. Paid $25 to win and $12 or so to place. I bought a new car back than with all my winnings. A 50 to 1 shot won and paid over $100 to win and $55 to place. Needed a suitcase to get it home. The security guards protected me also. This horse was called Imitation Fun.
Another 17 to 1 shot Linton Bay wins easily. Good memories.
His Mom has passed away I still talk to Steve once in awhile taking about our winnings back than. Times I will never forget.
