#16You do realize they skate as fast as they can for close to a minute and leave it all on the ice each and every shift, right? An impossible pace to keep up without getting a few minutes in between each shift. NBA players don’t even hustle or play defense. Impossible to compare to hockey.Comment -

#20Nope I didn’t. But it’s true sorry. I’m not a fan of NBA sitting either. Jokic played all the games last year. They are trying to max out their contracts in nba by lengthening their career. Hockey players don’t think that way. They also have more time off between games than the nba does. The season usually lasts a couple weeks more.Originally posted by TheMetsSuckDumbest comment I’ve read on sbr maybe. Clearly has never played hockey.Comment -

#21The reasoning they should be playing is that load management didn’t happen back in the day in the nba and guys like jokic don’t sit out now. Not comparing nhl to nba. Nba they should be playing except maybe the end of the year when they are locked into a playoff spot or out completely.Comment -

And load management in the NBA is the biggest bunch of monkey dung ever. Didn't Dennis Rodman play all 82 games for 3 years straight??Comment -

#23NHL is late this year because of the Olympics. They start a few weeks early and end a few weeks earlier then the NBA. 82 games. They don't have more time off between games. The season takes the same amount of time.Originally posted by thetrinityNope I didn’t. But it’s true sorry. I’m not a fan of NBA sitting either. Jokic played all the games last year. NBA guys take too many games off. It's frustrating for people when they pay money to go to the games and the whole team is resting.Comment -

#25Agree with what everyone else is saying, although it's not a one-size fits all deal. There's definitely some major pussies (Kawhi), but as Lakerboy points out:
The Spurs basically ruined the NBA. They were the ones that started this "load management" crap and it worked too well. I'd imagine the Spurs win all five of those titles anyway, but it's a copycat league and so every team does this now.Originally posted by lakerboyDon't forget who started this. PopsComment -

#26I am not sure why
I do know there are way more injuries in the nba, naturally. It is tougher on the body and anything can go wrong at any moment. You dont see a ton of hockey players tearing their achilles or acl or a torn rotator cuff etc. Usually a shoulder injury in hockey is like a dislocation, pop it back in, good to go back in, rest it for a week or so. Most hockey injuries are like a sore back mostly since skating is pretty tough on the core area. Concussion too obviously.
Overall you cant really compare skating to running and jumping and twisting in mid air, all that is very hard on the body which explains why 45 yr old hockey players are out there skating, and most nba players dont even make it past their early 30s.
I would say thats the reason for rest. Its the risk of injury. The risk of injury in hockey is much lower so they say let them go out there and play every game. Say Giannis tears his achilles tomorrow in a meaningless game. The Bucks season is over.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#29I do know you still have guys like thorton and duncan keith and fluery brett burns Chara, I mean come on, there's a ton of elite hockey players in their late 30s and some of these guys are in their 40s. Chris Chelios was a great defender at like 44 years old man. Imagine playing till you are 44 in the nba, would never in a million years happen.Originally posted by TheMetsSuckLol lots of 45 year olds. Gimme a break. Even ovechkin, crosby, both those guys can easily still go till early 40s and be two of the top players.
Hockey isn't the same kind type of athleticism as a basketball or football, those are fast paced sports where the injuries are career ending. Who is the last hockey player to tear their achilles, which is probably the worst injury in sports?Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#31I can't speak on the "medical issues" in regards to an ACL tear etc for a basketball player compare to an NHL player. I will say this though.... My brother happened to party one night with Bob Probert of the Red Wings. And they had some interesting conversations. Probert admitted he was "always hurting" physically. Sure he did lines of coke to get by.... most NHL players do to get the edge off. The pain they endure IMO blows away any NBA player. You're getting checked every night.... you have to get your head up 24/7. I think the constant adrenaline for hockey players is at an all time level. Not trying to sound mega racist here.... but white hockey players are clearly GRINDERS. BLUE COLLAR... know what it takes. NBA players are mostly black.... and passive and pussified as fukk. I've never seen so many players take off trips down the floor CONSTANTLY in the NBA. Paul George is a classic version of this.Originally posted by Goat MilkI am not sure why

Only NBA star right off the top of my head that WORKED FOR EVERYTHING he had on the floor was Kobe Bryant. No one worked harder through injury... and if he was down by 14..... he wasn't giving up. Lebron James is a piece of sh##.Comment -
